TAMPA, Fla. Mike Scott Jersey . -- The Tampa Bay Lightning followed a strong offseason with an impressive comeback win.Tyler Johnson scored a go-ahead power-play goal off a nifty pass from Steven Stamkos midway through the third period and the Lightning beat the Detroit Red Wings 6-4 in the season opener for both on Thursday nightYoud like to not give up four goals but all you can ask for is a win, Johnson said. We have a lot of confidence in this team. Weve been through a lot together. The Lightning beat Detroit in the first round of the playoffs each of the last two years en route to the Stanley Cup final in 2015 and the Eastern Conference final last season.Tampa Bay also got goals from Jonathan Drouin, Cedric Paquette, Brian Boyle, Alex Killorn and Valtteri Filppula.Johnson was positioned at the right circle and redirected Stamkos feed past Petr Mrazek at 8:34 to put the Lightning up 4-3, just 5 seconds after Detroit was called for too many men on the ice.As that game went on, we got stronger, Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said.Tampa Bay general manager Steve Yzerman kept a talented nucleus intact in the offseason, beginning with re-signing Stamkos to an eight-year, $68 million contract.Defenseman Victor Hedman received an eight-year, $63 million deal. Forward Nikita Kucherov on Tuesday signed a three-year contract worth an annual average of $4.766 million.Thomas Vanek scored two goals for the Red Wings. Frans Nielsen, signed to a $31.5 million, six-year free agent deal by Detroit, had a goal and an assist. This is a game we could have won, should have won, Vanek said. The Red Wings were without Pavel Datsyuk at the start of a season for the first time since 2000. He left the NHL to return to Russia to continue his career near his family.Boyle tied it at 3 during a 2-on-1 early in the third. Killorn added a late power-play goal before Danny DeKeyser cut the Red Wings deficit to 5-4 when his center-ice shot went off the glass along the left wing boards and shot past Ben Bishop with 2 minutes left.Filppula secured the win with an empty-netter.Vanek continued his career-long success against Tampa Bay by scoring twice, including a power-play goal, in the opening 8:26 of the game. He has 27 goals and 45 points in 41 games against the Lightning. He knows how to score, and you saw that tonight, Detroit left wing Henrik Zetterberg said. The Red Wings signed Vanek to a one-year, $2.6 million deal shortly after Minnesota bought out the last year of the forwards three-year, $19.5 million deal. Vanek had a career-low 18 goals last season. After Drouin scored on the power play midway through the second, Nielsen made it 3-1 just 55 seconds later.Paquette scored from a tough angle later in the second. If that was your first hockey game, that was a pretty good one to go to, Cooper said.Game notes Vanek didnt score a goal in his final 14 games last season. ... Detroit D Niklas Kronwell (knee) didnt play. ... Tampa Bay RW Ryan Callahan (hip surgery) could return early next month.UP NEXTRed Wings: Wrap up a two-game southern swing Saturday night at Florida.Lightning: Host New Jersey on Saturday night in the second game of a season-opening four-game homestand. Sean Dyche hopes returning Burnley striker Andre Gray will be allowed to move on from the social media posts that earned him a four-game ban. Willians Astudillo Twins Jersey . Gray will be back on duty against Manchester United on Saturday for the first time since September 17, having been banned by the FA for misconduct in relation to comments he made on social media dating back to 2012.The 25-year-old has apologised for the messages, which appeared during his time with non-league Hinckley United, and stressed he was absolutely not homophobic. Sean Dyche believes Burnleys striker Andre Gray should be allowed to move on from his ill-advised social media posts Burnley have condemned the posts but supported their player and now manager Dyche hopes to draw a line under the incident.I dont know what abuse he will get, Dyche said. If you come out, hold your hands up and say thats not me any more, what abuse will you get? Gray sorry for tweets Burnley striker Andre Gray apologises for homophobic tweets Theres no crystal ball for me, hes a young man developing and learning, and theres no guarantees hes going to cope with it in any way, either positive or negative.I think its fair to say his behaviour will be monitored more closely. I dont mind that. I think that comes with the territory a little bit, first of all going into the Premier League as a player and then with an incident thats not to do with football. Highlights: Burnley 2-1 Everton This type of situation, he can only learn from. Hes got to learn from it, its happened, so you get a sanction for it., you pay your price for want of a better way to put it, and move forward. The ones who dont learn are often the ones who have trouble in the future, and I dont think hes that type, hes trying to move forward. While Dyche is not sure how Gray will be treated by rival fans, or how it will impact his game, he questioned whether footballers should use social media platforms. SASKATOON -- In most other years, London Knights forward Max Domi would probably garner more attention at the MasterCard Memorial Cup. Gabriel Landeskog Avalanche Jersey . The son of former tough guy Tie Domi is expected to be taken in the first round of next months NHL draft, but with the three top North American-based prospects all playing at the Credit Union Centre, the 2013 edition of Canadian Hockey Leagues showcase event is far from normal. That suits Domi and a host of other potential picks just fine. NHL scouts have descended on the 10-day tournament as top prospects Seth Jones of the Portland Winterhawks, and Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin, both of the Halifax Mooseheads, play their final games ahead of the draft. Having the trio in one place means that other players expected to have their names called early on June 30 in Newark, N.J., can focus on the tournament. "I know those guys pretty well and theyre great guys and awesome hockey players," said Domi, who is ranked at No. 19 among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. "Were just worried about how the London Knights play and not really anything else to be honest. We focus on ourselves and the team and let the rest take care of itself." Knights teammate Bo Horvat, who is ranked 15th, says that although the draft is never completely out of his mind, the goal in Saskatoon is to win the CHL title. "Theres always competition but Ive played on teams with them before and were all good friends," he said. "I dont feel the pressure. Youve just got to play your game and not worry about the draft too much and just focus on the team aspect. "Theres definitely a lot of prospects here and a lot good hockey players looking to raise their stock." A player who has made one of the biggest jumps from the mid-season rankings to now is London defenceman Nikita Zadorov. The six-foot-five Russian scored the winner in the Knights 3-2 tournament-opening victory over the Saskatoon Blades and has moved up eight spots to No. 22 on the North American draft list. Knights coach Dale Hunter says despite being overshadowed by Jones, MacKinnon and Drouin at the Memorial Cup, his players are worthy of the billing theyve received from scouts. "Max and Bo, you can see what they did for us. Theyre young men, just like the Halifax boys and (Jones) from Portland. They both come to play," Hunter said. "Theyre all good players and thats why theyre ranked so high in the draft and deservedly so." Halifax goalie Zachary Fucale, who is listed as the No. 1 netminder in North America and played with both MacKinnon and Drouin for the last two seasons, has witnessed the hype surrounding his teammates. He says the looming draft and playing with and against top talent doesnt change his mindset. "I just concentrate on helping the team," he said. "We were all in this, us three together and I dont think one of us was ahead of the other. We were just playing for the team." Portland forward Nicolas Petan says he enjoys being on the ice against the best junior hockey has to offer. "It obviously elevates your game," said Petan, who is ranked No. 33. "It definitely motivates me to play against the guys who are ranked really high." Domi has an extra edge in terms of preparing for the draft in the form of his famous father, who actually played in a Memorial Cup in Saskatoon as a member of the 1989 Peterborough Petes. "Hes my dad so I talk to him quite a bit about hockey," the younger Domi said. "Hes been through all of this. We joke around about that a little bit. He played 17 years in the NHL so I bounce questions off him all the time and he helps me out a lot. "Having my dad in my back pocket is huge." J.T. Compher Jersey . He was one of only 10 NHL players to play at least 71 games with 10 penalty minutes or fewer.A first-round pick in the 2004 NHL draft by the New York Rangers, Korpikoski made his NHL debut for them in 2008-09. CHICAGO -- As he gets set for another showdown against his close friend and former teammate LeBron James, Dwyane Wade acknowledged Thursday that he had to change his game far more than James did during the pairs four years together with the Miami Heat. Mike Williams Chargers Jersey .I definitely changed mine more, Wade said with a laugh after Thursdays practice. Its not even a conversation. Theres no conversation to have. I definitely had to change mine more.Wade said that while he and James knew before they decided to join forces in Miami that their respective games would change, it was Wades game that was altered the most. He didnt have to have a conversation with James about it because the answer was obvious to both men.We all knew the sacrifice that was going to be [made], Wade said. Obviously, you sit down and you talk about playing together. You think you know whats [going to happen], you try to cover things in that moment, but then once you start playing together you realize its harder than what you thought. But we all knew we had to sacrifice. Chris Bosh, too. Hes somebody who they dont talk about, he had to sacrifice a lot too. But at the end of the day, we sacrificed points, article hits, but what we gained was championships, friendships and brotherhoods that last a lifetime. So Im sure if we could do it all over again wed do it exactly the same way.Wade, who will be making his first appearance against James in a Chicago Bulls uniform on Friday, doesnt hide from the fact that playing against his former teammate means more to him than most games.Ive always said it: Kobe [Bryant] and LeBron have always been my favorite guys to play against, Wade said. Its just something about those games for me thats always been a little special. I wont be one of those cliché athletes to say its just another game. Its never just another game for me to play against those guys. I just enjoy it more. Simple as that. I enjoy playing against LeBron more than anybody else just because of the things I know hes going to bring to the game. Great people bring greatness out of you. Hes always done that for me and vice versa. I think Ive done it for him. So Ive always enjoyed it.Wade, in his 14th season, didnt rule out the possibility of playing with James again at some point in his career, but he made it very clear how happy he was to be in Chicago.I never thought I would play with LeBron, Wade said. I didnt think it was a possibility at all. I enjoyed the All-Star Games, I enjoyed the Olympics, but I never thought that wed play together. Thats why now I look with younger guys and what they say and stuff like that because you never know what the futures going to hold for you. Just keep your comments to yourself on the future. So I would keep my comments on myself for whatever. For me, Im here and Im happy to be here but I was happy in Miami as well. It just happened. And you never know what happens in this game. So people should never say never on anything. Then Wade leaned closer into the microphones and recorders present at the Bulls practice facility.Thats not saying that I want to play with LeBron [again]. Let me clearly say that. That is not saying that I want to be somewhere that Im not. Thats not saying that at all, but also I understand how this league works, how this thing goes, and people need to know just dont say never, thats all. Derwin James Jersey . Duchene scored two goals and had an assist, helping the Colorado Avalanche beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2 on Friday night to match the best 10-game start in team history. Derwin James Youth Jersey . Hi Kerry, Heres an interesting one. I know its common knowledge that all players are responsible for their sticks. We witnessed that when Zack Kassian hit Edmontons Sam Gagner in the face after a missed check. SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Although Lewis Hamilton left Brazil with a slimmer chance of winning the title than when he arrived, he said he took huge satisfaction from the manner in which he beat Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg to victory on Sunday.Hamilton cut the gap in the drivers standings to 12 points by winning in Brazil, meaning he needs Rosberg to finish fourth or lower at the final round in Abu Dhabi to be in with a chance of winning the title. Despite the odds being stacked against him in the championship, Hamilton said he left Brazil satisfied he had proven himself as the stronger driver in Sao Paulos tricky conditions.I am happy that I beat everyone today, he said. I am happy that with the same car I beat Nico -- and Nico is driving at his best right now but today he had nothing on me.I am happy that we as a team have continued to make history and feel my mechanics, who were given to me at the beginning of the year, have gelled so well and are doing a fantastic job. Im super happy with my engineers, who are the best.Nico is doing all he has to do, which is finish every race and not have any problems. Easton Stick Chargers Jersey. I am in an awkward position going into the last race, it doesnt make a big difference if I drive like I do now because I have already lost so much earlier in the year. But I wont give up because you never know what could happen.Hamilton has won the last three races, clawing back 21 points to Rosberg who has finished second to him each time. Although engine problems and poor starts cost Hamilton dear in earlier rounds this season, he said he is still proud of his achievements with his team this season.I am and will be proud of myself if I continue to perform as I am, he added. I am proud of who has been a part of helping us win these races. What a year. To have nine wins is amazing. I think it is my 31st or 32nd win with the team, which is just crazy. I am just really thankful that these guys have given me such a great opportunity and I have capitalised on it. ' ' '
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Vincent Lecavalier Lightning Jersey . -- Trailing midway through the fourth quarter, Arkansas coach Bret Bielema wasnt all that concerned about style points or margin of victory. Not with another shocking loss like less than a year ago to Toledo still fresh on his mind.Behind a pair of fourth-down conversions in the fourth quarter, the Razorbacks (1-0) managed to avoid another early season disappointment to a non-Power 5 conference team on Saturday -- rallying for a 21-20 victory over Louisiana Tech (0-1).I know everybody would have, including myself at the end of the day, would have liked to come out of here with a larger margin of victory, Bielema said. But ... I knew (the Bulldogs) were going to be a good football team, very well coached. The Razorbacks rallied thanks to a pair of nerve-wracking calls by Bielema, particularly with first-time starter Austin Allen under center for Arkansas.Bielemas faith in his junior starter was rewarded, especially after Allen connected with tight end Jeremy Sprinkle from four yards out on fourth down to give Arkansas the 21-20 with 6:37 remaining in the game.Im glad (Bielema) called it, Allen said. Wed been practicing that play all week, everybody knew what they were doing and we did it perfectly. It worked out for us.Despite the go-ahead touchdown, the Razorbacks didnt secure the win for good until another fourth-down call by Bielema with just over a minute remaining.Facing fourth-and-inches at its own 37, Arkansas converted a first down with a power run by 240-pound running back Kody Walker -- allowing the Razorbacks to run out the clock and exhale a welcomed sigh of relief following last years early stumbles. You make the fourth-down decision looking to have success, Bielema said. The last one, its just a gut feel. I just had a feeling we were going to have a nice push, and it ended up sealing the game. With 18 wins over the last two seasons, including a pair of bowl victories, Louisiana Tech didnt expect to enter Saturday as the usual kind of early season cupcake for the Razorbacks. And the Bulldogs didnt play like it, either.Freshman JMar Smith, playing in place of suspended starter Ryan Higgins, finished 19 of 31 for 212 yards passing for Louisiana Tech -- helping the Conference USA school take a 20-14 lead in the third quarter after a 20-yard field goal by kicker Jonathan Barnes. However, Barnes missed another kick off the left upright from 39 yards that would have put the Bulldogs up 23-14 in the fourth quarter. That gave hope to Arkansas, which responded with a 13-play, 77-yard touchdown drive -- capped by Allen finding Sprinkle on a throwback to the left side of the end zone.Allen finished 20-of-29 passing for 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his debut as the Razorbacks starter, but he also threw a pair of first-half interceptions that led to Louisiana Tech touchdowns.Rawleigh Williams led Arkansas with 96 yards rushing on 24 carries, including a touchdown.THE TAKEAWAYLA. TECH: Minus 13 starters from a year ago, and with Higgins on the bench, the Bulldogs looked every bit as good as its teams that have won nine games in each of the last two seasons. Smith had little problem picking apart Arkansas defense, with wide receiver Trent Taylor leading the Bulldogs with eight catches for 78 yards.I think we have an awful lot of positive things to build on, but I dont think this a game we wanted to be close, Louisiana Tech coach Skip Holtz said. We dont want to be close, we want to win.ARKANSAS: The Razorbacks entered the season with three new starting offensive linemen, and their inexperience showed on Saturday. Arkansas allowed four sacks of Allen in the close victory, and it managed only 106 yards rushing on 40 carries -- a significant concern moving forward into Southeastern Conference play.UP NEXTLA. TECH: The Bulldogs take a break from Power 5 conference competition when they face South Carolina State in their home opener, a week before traveling to face Big 12 Conference member Texas Tech.ARKANSAS: Life doesnt get any easier for the Razorbacks, who travel to Texas to take on No. 13 TCU. Cedric Paquette Lightning Jersey .S. -- Nikolaj Ehlers registered a hat trick for the third straight game and Jonathan Drouin had a goal and five assists as the Halifax Mooseheads hammered the host Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 10-1 on Tuesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. Ondrej Palat Lightning Jersey . PAUL, Minn. http://www.lightninghockeystore.us/Andrei-Vasilevskiy-Jersey/ . -- About a third of the way through the regular season, the Washington Wizards are at . Yorkshires director of cricket, Martyn Moxon, has vowed there will be no retreat to the insular ways of old after the county responded to the loss of Australian coach Jason Gillespie by promoting Andrew Gale from the ranks.Such assurances were conveyed to the first-team staff minutes before the unofficially Headingley unveiling of Gale, who as Yorkshires 1st XI captain was one of the key figures in a renaissance which has brought two Championships in three years and supplied England with a steady stream of players. His opening worfds? I bet this surprised you.Gale has been an inspirational figure as Yorkshires captain. His pride in the county has been unstinting, his sense of unity strong, his expectations expressed in straightforward terms that translate easily across the Broad Acres. His worth goes far beyond a playing-record of 8217 runs at 36.03. I didnt expect the opportunity to come as early as it has, but it is one that is too good to turn down, he said.Nevertheless, Yorkshires history of self-sufficiency automatically invites the suspicion that they are sometimes overly tempted to trust their own judgment - it would certainly be in keeping with the political mood sweeping across the Western world - but Moxon has a broad outlook on such things and he welcomed the chance to scotch such a notion. We are not seeing this as an insular appointment, absolutely not, Moxon said. I have mentioned that with the players. We dont want to see this as we know best and that we have been successful over the past five years so if we just keep doing what we are doing we will be fine. We know we need an open mind, we need to be looking at new ways of doing things and we need to keep moving forward.Indeed, Gale immediately showed a willingness to question Yorkshire lore by advocating a root-and-branch examination, from junior cricket upwards, to address the countys shortcomings in T20 cricket, and area to which Gillespie was unable to find a solution.I think we could be a bit more dynamic in the way we play our one-day cricket, he said. At times we are a little bit one-dimensional. I dont think we work hard enough on our skills in white-ball cricket and I also think we need to be a bit more fearless. We are very traditional here in Yorkshire. The first thing you would teach a lad at 14-years-old is how to play a forward defence. You can make a career out of playing a scoop now. We need to change the mindset from top to bottom, right down to U-14s, U-15s. I know having played in the second team that there are other lads around the country who are a lot more skilful than out second team with white balls. Red ball is different - the lads know what they have to do - but from a white-ball perspective we are behind with our development. There will be unworthy suspicions, too, that the choice of Gale, who has agreed a three-year contract, represents a cost-cutting measure only a week after Yorkshire protested that potential delays in the redevelopment of Headingley could seriously jeopardise their international future. Its nothing to do with the finances, he said, before adding light-heartedly, Anyway, he might be on more money than Dizzy.Gale has retired immediately, at 32, after first indicating at the end of the season that he wanted to prolong his career only to be persuaded by Moxon that the time was ripe. Michael Vaughan, the former England captain and a member of Yorkshires board, was another person who Gale used as a sounding board. He has immediate challenges, not least the choice of a successor for his own role as captain. Alex Lees holds the role in both limited-overs formats, but Gary Ballance is also an influential figure in a strong-willed dressing room and, if indications are that his England career is losing impetus, he is bound to receive serious considerationAn overseas player is also a priority. It depends on what happens with England and we have one eye on that at the moment, Moxon said. But we are in the market for a top-order overseas batsman, I can say that for sure. The appointment of Gale is a pragmatic response by Moxon, who was solely in charge of recruitment, after high-profile targets such as Paul Farbrace, the England assistant coach, and Richard Dawson, head coach at Gloucestershire - both former heads of the Yorkshire academy resisted overtures. There was even talk of Andy Flower, the former England coach, who is now in charge of England Lions, and Brad Hodge, the former Australian batsman who is making a name for himself as a T20 coach as assistant coach to Gillespie at Adelaide Strikers and with Gujarat Lions in IPL, also had his advocates.Of course we were looking around and Im sure you would expect me to do that, Moxon said. But when I appointed people like Dizzy or Farby it felt right. That is the biggest thing about this appointment: it feels right. Tampa Bay Lightning Jerseys. Yorkshires 1st XI is an experienced group, especially among the bowlers, which has persuaded Moxon that continuity matters. Its important we keep that continuity and protect the environment that weve created, one that has been successful for us.The qualities are the togetherness we have had in the group, the strong leadership we have had, everyone knowing their role, everyone enjoying each others success and an honesty within the whole group. It has been a true team on and off the fieldWhat took up most of my thoughts was running the first team in the short term. It was clear to me he was the best man to do that. It was the least disruptive option. We want to avoid chopping and changing particularly when at a crucial period when the transition of the team is taken place.Gales immediate conclusion when Gillespie confirmed that he would be returning full-time to Australis had been that the vacancy had come too soon for him. But he will take his Level 4 coaching exams as soon as possible - he is already Level 3 - and his involvement in coaching is already substantial. He is the joint owner of the Pro Coach Cricket Academy, which is based next to Yorkshires own academy at Headingley and which delivers a wide range of coaching clinics across the county for children and adults of all abilities - sometimes in alliance with Yorkshire. Yorkshire are expected to examine how that relationship exists to safeguard Gale from suggestions of any conflict of interests.Initially we dont need him to be a top-level coach, Moxon said. We need him to be a leader and a manager of men. He can do that. He will grow into the coaching side of things over the next couple of years. He is highly qualified in the way that he has led the team as captain over the past seven years and has expertise that we didnt want to lose at the club.Gale had admitted to Moxon and Gillespie in mid-season that he was not enjoying his cricket and was contemplating retirement. He had been disappointed to lose not just the captaincy, but only to make fleeting appearances in Yorkshires limited-overs side. His batting had become scratchy and his fielding was showing of signs of wear and tear. In September, he stared down an average of 21 in the Championship and resolved to carry on, but a coaching career was inevitable. It was just a matter of when and where. As potential coaches were openly discussed around the county, Gale was under no lllusions that his Yorkshire career was drawing to a close. He remained under contract, but he had averaging only 21 in first-class cricket in 2016 and Alex Lees had replaced him as Yorkshires captain in both limited-overs formats. His batting had become increasingly scratchy and his fielding was showing premature signs of age. When I drove into Headingley a fortnight or so ago, as a player, I had the feeling of here we go again he said. Now I have driven here today with a real sense of excitement.Obviously, I have experience at grassroots running my own coaching company, and I have worked with young batters as a senior player about how they can improve their game, but I know senior coaching is different. I am willing to learn on the job and I need to learn quickly.Gale is too grounded to be overly concerned by the fact that he was not Yorkshires first choice. Most people are second choice to somebody, theoretically anyway. In fact, as club captain, he could hardly be unaware of the dead ends that Moxon came up against as he tried to find a replacement for Gillespie. But he also knows that when the applications came in, he was rapidly preferred.Im under no illusion that the club would have preferred an international coach, but Martyns philosophy was that if they couldnt get that then they didnt want too much change, he said. I know the players inside out so that transition should be easier than somebody we could have ended up taking a punt on: we could have ended up putting fires out in the middle of the season. The state that the club is in at the moment it just needs to continue the good work we have done.Obviously, you are going to be more distant from the players. You are making judgments on their place in the team, and on their careers, but the relationship will natural get further apart, but I know what makes the players tick and how to get the best out of them. Whether Im captain or coach, thats going to be the key in the short-term for this role. There will have to be that distance there as coach but Ive never been frightened to make those decisions as a captain anyway. I guess there might be a few tough words but thats part and parcel of the job. ' ' '
Power Five conference commissioners want to change NCAA rules to give college athletes more time away from team activities, including no longer counting travel as an off day, a mandatory seven-day break after the season and an additional 14 off days from athletic activity during the academic year. Ryquell Armstead Jersey .The agreement in concept was announced Thursday by the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and Southeastern Conference. The leagues said they believed they had found the right balance to help tens of thousands of athletes with a proposal they are calling Flex 21. The extra 21 days off would be in addition to the current mandatory off days, and could be tailored to fit each teams schedule with input from coaches and athletes.Formal proposals still need to be submitted, but the conferences could vote to turn them into NCAA rules at the next convention in January.College sports leaders have been looking into changes to ease the time demands on athletes for several years. At the last NCAA convention, the issue was delayed so more research could be done, including a survey of athletes from all sports. Conference officials seem eager to provide more benefits to athletes at a time when college sports is under legal and public pressure to make changes, including a push to pay athletes. Led by the College Athletes Players Association, members of the Northwestern football team made an attempt to unionize that ultimately failed.NCAA members schools and conferences have in recent years agreed to raise the value of athletic scholarships to cover the federally determined true cost of attendance that goes beyond tuition, books, room and board, and fees. They have also guaranteed four-year scholarships for many athletes and given athletes more say in making rules. We heard from our students that they would like more certainty in their schedules in order to engage in other activities, the commissioners said in a joint statement. We recognize there will need to be a level of flexibility and reasonableness in carrying out these changes, especially with regard to travel, but students deserve time off and we want athletic departments to work in a sensible and appropriate way to provide it. We want administrators to have some degree of flexibility in implementing these rules, but they must be mindful that rest is important to a students health, in addition to their athletic and academic performance.Currently, athletes are generally limited during the school year to 20 countable hours toward their sports per week, with one day off. Countable hours mostly cover practices, competition and conditioning, but does not count travel to and from events. The commissioners proposed expanding the definition of required athletic activities to include but not be limited to activities such as media requirements and mandatory community service. The proposal also includes a mandatory free-time block of eight hours overnight. The 14 extra off days will be on top of the current required two calendar days off per week outside the season. The additional 14 days can be used during the season if agreed to by coaches and athletes. We believe we have found the right balance between helping students participate in sports while also providing them with more down time, the commissioners said. Different sports have different demands and we think the concepts weve agreed to will help tens of thousands of students achieve more balance as they pursue their academic and athletic commitments.---Online:Joint statement from the conferences: http://www.theacc.com/news/commissioners-announce-agreement-for-changes-in-how-much-time-students-play-sports-07-07-2016 Yannick Ngakoue Jersey . Canterbury legend Terry Lamb not only wants an end to the clubs premiership drought next NRL season, but he reckons they should be doing it in style too.The Bulldogs will enter the new year as one of the most under-pressure teams in the competition after coach Des Hasler survived an emergency board meeting in October to keep his job.But Lamb insists its time for his ex-Kangaroos roommate Hasler, who fights for a new contract next season, to deliver a premiership. Were a successful club. The last grand final that we won was 2004. Weve been in two (grand finals) since and have gotten beat. We need to win, Lamb told AAP.We want to celebrate like the Sharkies did last season. That was a magnificent game last year, every grand final has been magnificent over the last three-to-four years. We want that. And to do so, the three-time premiership-winner believes Canterbury need to take a leaf out of the team that ended their finals run in the first week in September. The Panthers almost dazzled their way into a fairytale grand final on the back of an enterprising style of play, but ultimately fell two games short after being ousted by Canberra.Lamb reckonns the Bulldogs are a top-four team. Quincy Williams II Youth Jersey. I dont want to question what Dessie does on the field because hes been very successful as a coach, Lamb said. But for me, Penrith came out 6-4 down at halftime against us in that elimination final, they scored four-to-five tries in that second half because they threw the ball around. That proves that these days you need to attack more than you defend.Lamb said he and Hasler have mended their relationship after Lamb questioned whether the former Manly coach understood the clubs famed Dogs of War culture.Hasler came under more fire later in the year, surviving a sensational post-season board meeting that ended in board member Steve Mortimer stepping down from his role.I had a meeting with Des, we spoke about it, we shook hands after it, Lamb said. When you know a person since 1986 as a roommate on a Kangaroo tour, its hard to put a knife through a friendship. But its not about what I want - its about what the club wants. And thats to be more flamboyant in the game itself. ' ' '

NEW YORK -- Some Columbia University wrestlers will be suspended from the team for as long as the rest of the school year over lewd and racially insensitive text messages, but some teammates can keep competing, including in a state championship this weekend, the university announced Friday. Qadree Ollison Jersey .Columbia wouldnt say how many wrestlers are barred from competing, citing educational privacy laws, and the team coach and assistant coaches didnt immediately respond to emails and phone calls seeking comment. The team apologized in a letter Thursday, calling the text messages inexcusable and saying members were prepared for repercussions. We could not be more remorseful for the harm that this situation has caused, the team wrote, according to a student-run blog that said it received the letter. The blog, Bwog.com, had published screengrabs of the crude text messages. The university had put all competition on hold Monday to investigate the texts, which the blog said were exchanged by seniors on the wrestling team. Some messages disparaged female students, expressed hope that someone would be sexually assaulted at a campus event and used anti-gay terms and slurs against black people, including while discussing the deadly police shooting of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014.The blog redacted the senders identities, so it was unclear how many people sent or responded to them. But Columbias athletics department said in a statement Friday it determined only a distinct group of wrestlers was involved. Those responsible for the offensive statements are suspended from the team through the rest of the school year; some others are barred just through the rest of the semester, and those who werent involved can continue competing, the athletics department said. No wrestlers are suspended from their studies, just from the sport. The department said it recognized students have a right to express themselves, but the appalling messages dont fit behavior standards for Columbias student-athletes. The athletes code of conduct includes pledges to treat everyone with dignity and respect and not to do anything that might reflect poorly on themselves or the team. The wrestlers will work with an advocate for fighting discrimination in sports, the department said. The messages were revealed a week after Harvard University canceled the remainder of the season for its mens soccer team because of lewd comments about members of the womens soccer team. "Its probably good for both of us," Garcia said, referring to the rift that began when Garcia felt Woods instigated crowd noise as the Spaniard was playing a shot. Woods finally made another birdie and finished off the third round Sunday morning with a 1-under 71. Garcia bogeyed the 15th when he resumed play, followed with a pair of birdies and closed with a superb chip to save par on the 18th hole for a 72. David Lingmerth, a 25-year-old rookie from Sweden who had a two-shot lead when play resumed, made bogey from the trees on the 18th hole for a 3-under 69. They were at 11-under 205, one shot clear of Henrik Stenson of Sweden (71), Ryan Palmer and Casey Wittenberg, who birdied his last three holes for a 70. Wittenberg only played the 18th hole Sunday morning to finish his round. So much for that drama of Woods and Garcia paired again at Sawgrass, though Garcia didnt back away from sharing his feelings about Woods. "Im not going to lie, hes not my favourite guy to play with," Garcia said told Sky Sports. "Hes not the nicest guy on tour." Even though Woods tapped in for par before Garcia made his 4-foot par putt, Garcia joined Lingmerth in the final group. When two players in the same pairing are tied after the round, the player who was first to hit when the full round began is listed first. That put Garcia, who had a one-shot lead going into the third round, in the final group. Woods figured they would play together in threesomes because of the rain delay -- it will be twosomes, instead -- and he said it didnt matter who he played with on Sunday afternoon. "Im tied for the lead, so Im right there," he said. Woods is dangerous from that spot. His record on the PGA Tour is 52-4 when he has at least a share of the lead going into the final round. Public tension is rare in golf, though it was on full display when Garcia sat before a television camera during a storm delay on Saturday. The incident took root on the par-5 second hole when Garcia played his second shot from the fairway and hit it well right into trouble, leading to bogey. He heard a burst of cheers from the fans gathered around Woods in the treess, reacting to Woods taking out a 5-wood to play a high-risk shot. Qadree Ollison Youth Jersey. "I wouldnt say that he didnt see that I was ready, but you do have a feel when the other guy is going to hit and right as I was in the top of the backswing, I think he must have pulled like a 5-wood or a 3-wood and obviously everybody started screaming," Garcia said on TV during the delay. "So that didnt help very much." After the round, Woods said Garcia didnt have his facts straight. "The marshals, they told me he already hit, so I pulled a club and was getting ready to play my shot," Woods said. "And then I hear his comments afterwards, and not real surprising that hes complaining about something." They had a frosty relationship to begin with, and that only added another layer of ice. Garcia said in a Golf Channel interview after he finished his third round, "We dont enjoy each others company. You dont need to be a rocket engineer to figure that out." Through it all, theres a prestigious golf tournament to be won that offers $1.71 million to the winner, along with a three-year exemption to the Masters and British Open, and a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour. That would be helpful for Lingmerth, who made it onto the PGA Tour through the minor leagues last year. He hit deep into the trees right of the 18th fairway, hit the trees trying to escape and was fortunate the ball landed in the fairway. He had a two-putt bogey and then waited to see if anyone could pass him. Woods and Garcia were on the 15th hole when play resumed. Garcia came up well short from the rough, and then hit a soft pitch that settled 10 feet short of the cup, leading to bogey. Woods 12-foot birdie putt caught the lip. Both made birdie on the 16th, Woods with a chip shot instead of putting through about 10 feet of fringe. That set up a short birdie putt on the par 5. Garcias second shot was buried in gnarly rough, and he chipped out perfectly to about 4 feet for birdie. Garcia held his breath on the island-green 17th when his wedge hit the flagstick. Instead of bouncing back into the water, it caromed to the right of the flag, and he holed the 15-foot birdie putt to tie Woods and Lingmerth. On the final hole, Garcia came up short and well to the right, and his chip from 120 feet ran just 4 feet by the hole. A dozen players were separated by four shots going into the last round. ' ' '
Michigan and football coach Jim Harbaugh agreed to a contract amendment that will increase total payments from the school to $9 million in 2016. DeMarcus Cousins Kings Jersey .In addition to paying a $5 million salary for each of the remaining six years on his deal, Michigan also will loan Harbaugh $4 million in 2016 and an additional $2 million for the following five years to pay the premium on a life insurance policy. The first $2 million loan was made June 3, according to records obtained Wednesday via a Freedom of Information Act request. Each additional $2 million payment will be made in December starting later this year.As long as the insurance policy stays active, Harbaugh does not need to repay the loan until he dies. At that time, the university can recoup its original investment and the rest of the insurance payout would go to whomever Harbaugh chooses as his beneficiaries. Should the policy be stopped at any point, Michigan would still be entitled to get its money back from the insurer. The deal insures that Harbaughs heirs, should he die while Michigan is paying for the policy, will get no less than 150 percent of the premium that has been paid, increasing the payout by $6 million in 2016 and $3 million each successive year. The 150 percent clause protects the university as well. Harbaugh is allowed to borrow against the policy while he is living but has to keep at least 150 percent of the premium value untouched, which gives the school a cushion to make sure it gets its investment back.Harbaughs original seven-year contract with the school allowed for the parties to sit down and discuss additional compensation after the coach finished his first season with the Wolverines. Those discussions started under interim athletic director Jim Hackett in December. Hackett, the former CEO of Steelcase furniture, laid the groundwork for this deal, which a source at Michigan explained is a more commonplace form of deferred compensation in the corporate world.New athletic director Warde Manuel had said in March that the amendment to Harbaughs contract was nearing completion. The two sides officially came to an agreement June 3.If Harbaugh decides to leave the school or is fired, the university will stop providing the loans for insurance premium payments. If the insurance policy is canceled for any reason after that point, Harbaugh will need to pay back the money Michigan loaned him.Harbaughs contract and this amendment are both set to expire in December 2021. There is a clause in the deal that allows the two sides to renegotiate after his fifth season in order to make sure Harbaughs salary still meets market value.ESPN senior writer Darren Rovell contributed to this report. CHICAGO -- At first glance, it will be ace vs. Swell Liberty Bottle NZ . ace on Saturday as the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants send their best to the mound. But Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta (16-5, 2.84 ERA) and Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner (13-8, 2.49 ERA) have had some struggles of late.Arrieta, the reigning Cy Young Award winner, was knocked around in last Tuesdays start, allowing a season-high tying six runs in 6 1/3 innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cubs eventually pulled out an 8-7 win in 13 innings but Arrieta had no decision. The only thing thats been amiss is command issues on occasion, Cubs manager Joe Maddon said recently. Otherwise, his stuff is the same. His numbers are fabulous.Arrieta might not quite be matching the stunning pace set last year when he went 11-0 in his final 13 regular season starts. But even a slightly less effective Arrieta remains tough to beat. His 16 victories and opponents batting average (.185) both lead the National League. His ERA is sixth and 161 strikeouts are eighth.Bumgarner has a 6.35 ERA in his last three starts, while opponents are hitting .303 in that span.Youre going to have days, a couple of starts, when youre not going to be quite as sharp, but you find a way to win, Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reporters this week. His .212 opponents batting average is fourth in the league.Bumgarner is 7-2 with a 2.19 ERA in 11 career starts against the Cubs. Hes 4-0 in his last five starts against Chicago.Arrieta is 4-1 with a 1.60 ERA in five career starts -- four at AT&T Park -- against the Giants. His only previous start against San Francisco at Wrigley Field came on Aug. 9, 2015, when he allowed four hits in 7 2/3 scoreless innings in a 2-0 Cubs win.He earned a win at AT&T Park on May 20, allowing one run on four hits in seven innings of an 8-1 Chicago win.The Giants will send Johnny Cueto (14-5, 2.98 ERA) against a Cubs starter to be determined in Sundays series finale. WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- It might be easy to understand if Purdue is ready for this season to be over.Their coach of four seasons, Darrell Hazell, was fired after a 49-35 homecoming loss to Iowa last month. Theyve lost every game since despite the energetic efforts of interim head coach Gerad Parker. The Boilermakers (3-8, 1-7 Big Ten) will end the season Saturday, win or lose, on the road against rival Indiana in the traditional Old Oaken Bucket game.Parker says his team will be ready. They absolutely do have enough left, and you cant disregard that, Parker said Tuesday. I believe we have more to play for. Were all in. I know that on Sunday, our energy was the best it has been. In our Monday night practice, our guys ran around full of energy. They know what this is about. They know its a rivalry game. We arent going to have to ask our guys to play.Purdue has lost six in a row and has been outscored 276-141, an average of 46-23.5. The Boilermakers are tied for last in the nation in turnover margin at minus-18, including 23-8 in interception differential. Purdue is last in the Big Ten in scoring defense (allowing 39.4 points per game) and last in total defense (461.9 yards).Toss in the fact Purdue has lost 16 consecutive games played in November and the uncertainty surrounding the head coaching position and the situation appears daunting. We cant turn it over and expect to win a game. Last week (against Wisconsin) is gone, and now were going to give Indiana everything weve got.Parker is 0-5 as the interim head coach -- opponents have outscored Purdue 128-27 in the second halves of those losses -- but he said he is proud of the fact the Boilermakers never failed to compete for him.Our players and coaches have kept everything in the locker room in order and have held each other accountable, Parker said. We had a great practice Monday night and plan to have great practices the rest of the week to get ready for a very good Indiana team.We have -- in my opinion -- just as much to play for as Indiana. Its about the legacy of our seniors and how we all want to leave this program.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25. ' ' '
