There were no large crowds around him and, for early October, the south of England was beautifully warmer than anyone expected. This was a much simpler time. A time when sports stars had to make their way through some of the public areas to get to speak to the awaiting media, but they were able to do so without being mobbed. Each year, the winner of the pole position for the Grand Prix, on the Saturday, was required to make the journey behind the public grandstands on the front straight. In a few years, more and more professional autograph hunters would put a stop to such a simple passage and not much long after the entire complex was seen as being way below par to host a Grand Prix. But on this day, October 5, 1985, Brands Hatch circuit was the centre of the Formula One universe. The next day Alain Prost would become World Champion for the first time but today was all about that gorgeous black Lotus-Renault that popped and demanded your attention thanks to the yellow helmet belonging to a star in the making, 25-year-old driver, Ayrton Senna. Already it was plain to see that the young Brazilian was remarkable on a fast qualifying lap and an hour or so earlier he had taken his sixth pole position of the season. The boy waited to see if he could get a glimpse. And then he appeared, in his civvies, and just like that he was gone. In between he had taken a second to write his autograph in the book held tightly by the young fan. The next day the boy and his father stood on the final turn of Brands Hatch and watched with their very eyes as Senna, leading the race, collided with the Williams car of Keke Rosberg while battling for the lead. The crash, which for an added bonus knocked the easily unlikeable Nelson Piquet out of the race, forced Rosberg into the pits. When he returned he did so right in front of Senna and the charging Englishman Nigel Mansell. It was the kind of plot a moviemaker would think up, yet this was really developing in front of the eyes of stunned seven-year-old. An incensed Rosberg held Senna up, Mansell saw his moment and overtook the Brazilian. The crowd erupted immediately, like a football stadium reacting to a late goal. Mansell would go on to win his first-ever Grand Prix, joined by Senna and Rosberg on the podium. The boy was hooked. These days it will take you less than five seconds on Google to find an article preaching to its readers to not make a sports star your hero. One of the biggest issues surrounding this notion is that it is being told to you by an adult who has grown to know no one is perfect and feels the need to protect people from being let down. Children dont have much of a voice when it comes to adults but they certainly can teach us a thing or two about the innocent beauty of admiring a sports star for what he/she does in their chosen field, regardless of what they are like otherwise. That day, back in 1985, the seven-year-old boy who cried when the race was over, and spent the five-hour car ride home with his mind full of race cars driven by gladiatorial figures, didnt have a platform to write about what those drivers meant to him. Today, he does. I still have that autograph, now proudly placed in a frame beneath a painting of Sennas first win in Portugal, achieved in that gorgeous black Lotus. When I glance at it, I am reminded of that weekend in 1985. As we made the journey north towards home I didnt do it as an Ayrton Senna fan, after all, an Englishman had captured the hearts of thousands, completing a rags-to-riches story by winning his first ever Grand Prix. I was a Nigel Mansell fan. However, the beauty of youth and the sport, meant I could be much more than just that. This was not like football where you were taught to love one and despise all others. Grand Prix racers, with the exception of Mansells nemesis in Piquet, were to be admired and as the years went on, even during epic Senna-Mansell rivalry seasons, I feasted on the epic greatness from both. Id witness Mansell winning the British Grand Prix in 1986 and 1987 and in 1991 I was on the track when he drove by with Senna, hanging on his car as a passenger after retiring late in the race. Cheap NFL Jerseys Store. By then I was old enough to know Senna was better than Mansell and that was what made his victories even sweeter; knowing he had beaten the ultimate standard set by the greatest racing driver I had ever seen. Id watched from my couch, in the middle of the night, Sennas titanic tussles with Prost in Japan when the pair clashed for the 1989 and 1990 World Championships. The drama was incredible and the plots main character, Senna, was an enormous figure in my life. I never missed a race and the sport back then gave me memories to last a lifetime. The way my dad talked about Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier to me is how I can talk about Senna-Prost to my children. Id eventually hear the Brazilian anthem played for Senna at a Grand Prix in Belgium in 1991, the day Michael Schumacher made his first career start, but nothing came close to what I saw in 1993. This time the weather was far from nice. It was absolutely awful, in fact. We were no longer in the south either. My familys love for the sport had taken us to Donington Park, in Derbyshire, in early April. Remarkably, the crowd was very low, with the nation suffering an F1 hangover from Mansell packing his bags for Indycar. Those lucky enough to get absolutely drenched that day witnessed true greatness. Senna would win 41 Grand Prix races but his best happened that day as his McLaren danced in unison with the rain at the European Grand Prix. It is hard to put into words what he did, just watch his opening lap on Youtube and see for yourself. The rain master obliterated the field that day giving the fans and his rivals a lesson in perfection, every single lap. It was what all sports fans crave. Its one thing to witness a group of sports stars doing something we could never dream of, but it is quite something else to see someone take that standard to another level. To this day when I think of Senna I think of Donington Park for two reasons. I was there the day he won that race and I was there on May 1, 1994 when we lost him for good. That day he was in Italy for the San Marino Grand Prix, where ten years earlier I had been to see a race, the only one in Sennas career he failed to qualify for. A decade on he had different troubles. Troubles with his new Williams car and troubles with the sports safety after witnessing brutal, violent accidents on the Friday and Saturday of that race weekend. Young Rubens Barrichello survived his on Friday, Roland Ratzenberger wasnt so fortunate on Saturday afternoon, becoming the first F1 driver to be killed at a Grand Prix in 12 years. Id heard of his death on Saturday night on the new BBC Radio Five Live station and remember to this day how they teased it with Formula One loses its first driver since 1982, coming up well tell you who. I sat alone terrified, waiting for the answer. I was sixteen now but had been fortunate enough to watch these incredible men drive these amazing machines without ever getting the news that all motorsport fans fear. They were immortals, to me, true heroes inside their helmets guiding rocketships on wheels and leaving you with the most wonderful sound as they blasted by. I was part of the lucky generation. My dad, who had gotten me into the sport, had watched many of his favourites perish in years gone by but, for kids like me, we never faced such heartache. Until that weekend in 1994. That night I did what many teenagers in England did on Sundays - I listened to the Top 40 charts. Each song that came on provided background music to the career of Ayrton Senna da Silva that played out on my mind. I was overwhelmed by many different feelings, sadness being one of the main ones, of course, but, to this day, I remember the strongest emotion of all was pure disbelief. I kept wondering in mind, over and over, what it was going to be like to go to a Grand Prix without him being there. Twenty years on, the answer I got that night remains the same. The truth was it was never, ever the same. I had watched true greatness at a time when I was allowed heroes. After that, nothing could come close. ' ' '
SEATTLE - Jacob deGrom allowed five hits and a run in seven impressive innings, Lucas Duda hit a mammoth home run and the New York Mets beat the Seattle Mariners 3-1 Tuesday night. https://www.houstonfootballshop.com/31-Jersey . DeGrom (4-5) walked one and struck out seven to improve to 4-1 with a 1.59 ERA over his last six starts. Travis dArnaud drove in a run with a gift triple off Erasmo Ramirez (1-5), who was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma for the start, and scored on Ruben Tejadas soft single in the second inning to help New York end a three-game skid. Duda hit his 15th home run, a 446-foot drive off the second deck scoreboard in right field in the eighth. Jeurys Familia worked an easy eighth and Jenrry Mejia picked up the save — his 12th in 14 chances. Endy Chavez led off the bottom of the first with a single then deGrom retired the next 11 batters. With one out in the fifth, Willie Bloomquist broke through with a single to right. Dustin Ackley then doubled into the right-centre gap, scoring Bloomquist. Ackley advanced to third when Daniel Murphys relay to the plate sailed past the catcher but Ackley was left stranded. Ackley, who was 2 for 3, is hitting .377 in July after hitting just .214 in the first three months of the season. Ramirez went seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He walked two and matched his career high with 10 strikeouts. He also hit two batters. It is his fifth straight loss. He has not won since April 1. Over his previous four starts — all no-decisions — Ramirez had a 0.90 ERA with 14 strikeouts and 16 walks. Ramirez was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma before the game for his fourth stint with the big club. He likely will be sent back down after the game to make room for Wednesdays starter, Taijuan Walker. Duda gave the Mets a two-run cushion with his drive off the second-deck facade on a 3-1 pitch from Tom Wilhelmsen. NOTES: Walker was sent to Tacoma just before the All-Star break with an emphasis on working on his control. "I think hes better," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said. "He has worked out some things down there, from a mechanical standpoint." Another top prospect, LHP James Paxton, had a second rehab start for Tacoma Tuesday. He likely will get one more before a decision will be made on his status. . The Mariners, 53-47, have not had better than a .500 record after 100 games since they were 52-48 in 2009. . Chavez is 12 for 27 (.444) leading off. . Mets LHP Scott Rice, who made the big league roster last season after 14 years in the minors, will have elbow surgery Wednesday in New York to remove bone spurs in his left elbow. "For Scott, hes got to be very disappointed," manager Terry Collins said. "He spent 15 years in the minor leagues, finally get to the bigs, have success then have it squashed like he has." . The ongoing funk on penalty kill and an unusually quiet night on home ice for the power play divided the Leafs from the Bruins at the ACC in a rare Sunday night affair.Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jrue Holiday made a season-high four 3- pointers and totaled 22 points with eight assists in the New Orleans Pelicans 104-87 rout of the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center. Anthony Davis scored a game-high 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting for the Pelicans, who had lost five of six and were on the second of a back-to-back to close out a three-game road trip. We played a great team game, said Pelicans head coach Monty Williams. Cant say enough about our ball movement. This is a great win for our team. Ryan Anderson contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Shaking up the starting lineup wasnt enough to jumpstart the Lakers, who remain near the bottom of the Western Conference standings after yet another convincing defeat. Jeremy Lin and Carlos Boozer were moved to the bench in favor of Ed Davis and Ronnie Price after a 5-15 start to the season. Davis and Boozer both had 12 points in their new roles while the guards struggled to the tune of three points apiece. Im going to keep this lineup for a while, said Lakers head coach Byron Scott. Carlos wasnt happy not staarting. https://www.houstonfootballshop.com/54-Jersey. . And I was happy he felt that way. It would have bothered me if he was happy. Kobe Bryant scored 14 points on 18 shots to pace the Lakers, losers in seven of nine. The Pelicans turned a 10-point halftime lead into a 20-point cushion after a dominant third quarter. Holidays 3 put a stamp on the period and gave New Orleans a 79-59 lead. Alexis Ajinca scored on a hook shot and the newest Pelican, Gal Mekel, had a layup to push the spread to 24 points before a 12-0 Lakers run made it 83-71. Nick Young and Wayne Ellington both scored five during the spurt. But the lead never dipped back into single digits. Austin Rivers ended the flurry with a short bank shot, and Davis scored eight points in the final six minutes of the game to help keep LA at arms length. The Pelicans led 22-16 after one and 50-40 at halftime. Game Notes Six Lakers reached double figures ... Bryant is 63 points shy of passing Michael Jordan for third on the all-time scoring list ... SEVILLE, Spain - A second straight day of rain has forced more delays to the Fed Cup match between Spain and the Czech Republic. https://www.miamishopfootballshop.com/5-Jersey . The World Group first round series will now continue Monday with Spain leading 1-0. Earlier Sunday, Czech Klara Zakopalova led the second singles match against Maria Torro-Flor 6-3, 2-0. Weather permitting, the teams will also play reverse singles and a doubles match if necessary on the red clay court on Monday. Rain and strong wind in Seville caused a four-hour delay before Carla Suarez beat Barbora Zahlavova 6-1, 6-4 to give Spain the only point of the match so far. https://www.miamishopfootballshop.com/83-Jersey . Vick suffered a hamstring strain against the Giants on Oct. 6 and missed the past two games. He took the first-team reps at practice on Tuesday and the Philadelphia Inquirer cited a source as saying the veteran would get the nod Sunday, but his status will likely be evaluated as the week goes along. "Im optimistic about it," said Vick. "At some point this week Ill test it out, I just dont want to do it this early in the week." Eagles coach Chip Kelly has stated that the health of his quarterbacks would weigh heavily in his decision for the starting role. Vick said his health is improving each day, but he would not give a definitive answer whether or not he would suit up as the starter. https://www.miamishopfootballshop.com/37-Jersey. "Its kind of sore, but its progressing every day," Vick added. "Im excited to have an opportunity to play this week with this group of guys." Nick Foles replaced Vick as the starter the past two games, but suffered a concussion in Sundays 17-3 loss to the Cowboys and must pass the mandatory concussion protocol in order to play. Matt Barkley took over for Foles against Dallas and threw a trio of interceptions. The rookie would be the starter Sunday if Foles and Vick are unable to play. Vick has thrown for 1,185 yards and has completed 53.8 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and two interceptions. The Eagles ground attack will get a boost if Vick plays. The 11-year veteran rushed for 307 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries before his injury. ' ' '
Australia ended the United States incredible Rugby League World Cup journey in ruthless fashion and England accounted for France 34-6 to cruise into the semifinals on Saturday. Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping . The Kangaroos ran in 12 tries to sweep to a 62-0 victory, though it was soured by the sight of fullback Billy Slater being carried off with a potentially serious left knee injury just after halftime after being on the receiving end of a crunching tackle from Roman Hifo. Brett Morris and Jarryd Hayne enjoyed fruitful matches at Wrexhams Racecourse Ground with four tries apiece to tie the Australia test record. Australia scored eight in a first half that finished 38-0. Greg Inglis grabbed two tries, with Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk also crossing. Johnathan Thurston kicked seven goals. The U.S. has been the surprise package of the tournament with its run to the quarterfinals in its first World Cup, but was given a reality check in the teams biggest ever match. Fullback Sam Tomkins led England to a comfortable win over France in the rain at his club home ground in Wigan, but missed the last seven minutes while he was binned for a professional foul to half a French breakout. Vincent Duport dragged three tacklers over the line in the fifth minute, but France barely sniffed the try-line again. Tomkins set up Joshua Charnley for the first of Englands six tries, and the first of Charnleys pair. Ryan Hall also bagged a pair before the break, while Sean OLoughlin and replacement Brett Ferres added the only second-half tries. Kevin Sinfield hit five goals. England lined up defending champion New Zealand at Wembley next weekend, and coach Steve McNamara said a vast improvement was required. "Very scratchy," was how McNamara described Englands effort. Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn. Cheap NFL Jerseys Fast Shipping .ca. In Sundays Blackhawks-Penguins game, Pittsburgh defenceman Brooks Orpik laid a huge hit on Chicagos Jonathan Toews. Now in my view, Orpik can be clearly seen leaving his feet while delivering a moderately high hit. Why wasnt there supplemental discipline, and should there have even been a penalty? I thought anytime you leapt or left your feet, a penalty is called! Am I missing something? Stu Alderson Stu: You and I are not the only ones missing something here as players continually elevate their posture and leave their feet at impact to deliver devastating hits.  Dangerous and significant contact to the head of their opponent almost always results whenever a player leaves his feet to make a big hit. In the here and now, these hits are deemed "legal." With an eye firmly set on the end game, which I hope still remains to greatly reduce contact to the head and resulting concussions, it is irresponsible to continue down this path any longer. While each camp can passionately debate their respective position on whether to allow or eliminate high hits where significant contact to the head of an opponent results, I respectfully submit this issue should no longer be a matter of personal opinion. Instead, it should only be about "science." Through irrefutable medical evidence, we now know the short and long term effects of blows to the head. This road map can provide us with a clear picture of the end game! Brooks Orpik set up to deliver a body check as he slowed and glided toward Jonathan Toews in the corner. Toews sole intent was to advance the puck around the end wall. In doing so, Jonathan Toews lowered his body posture to place him (and particularly his head) in a vulnerable position and must share the responsibility for the location of where he was hit. The onus of "how" the contact was delivered and the "degree of force" utilized is exclusively on Brooks Orpik and taken into account by the referee to determine the legality of the check. No differently than the vast majority of current players, Brooks Orpik finished his hit on Jonathan Toews with considerable force as demonstrated by his upward launch with skates high off the ice. This intensified the velocity and violence of the hit regardless of whether Toews was in a vulnerable position or not. In many cases I would even suggest that an opponents apparent vulnerability is something a player will capitalize on to enhance the degree of force exerted through a hit. We certainly dont see many players let up! Rule 42.1 tells us that a minor or major shall be imposed on a player who "jumps into" an opponent. The "jump" element of this rule was once applied when a players skates lost contact with the ice. Charging is seldom called in the current era of the game, where players leave their feet with far more frequency in the act of delivering a body check than ever before. The most common "excuse" for not calling this infraction is that a players skates did not completely leave the ice prior to initiating body contact. This generous and liberal interpretation is extended to include times when the toe tip of one skate remains in contact with the ice at impact.  Referees should be directed to impose a charging penalty in every case when a players skates leave the ice in the act of delivering a body check, period. Each week, TSN. Cheap NBA Jerseys Online .ca Fantasy Editor Scott Cullen and NFL Editors Ben Fisher and Mitch Ward discuss three hot fantasy football topics. 1) Are you buying into Philip Rivers hot start in San Diego? Cullen: Believe it or not, I am. Head coach Mike McCoy has had some success as the offensive co-ordinator with far lesser quarterbacks (Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow), so resurrecting one as talented as Rivers shouldnt be as difficult. Obviously Rivers receivers have to stay healthy, and losing Danario Alexander in camp was a downer, but with Antonio Gates, Eddie Royal, Malcom Floyd and Vincent Brown, thats enough talent to get Rivers north of 4,000 yards and, more importantly, drop the interception totals from the last couple seasons. Now, Im not buying 5,000 yards and 50-plus touchdowns, like his current pace, but thats not fair to expect of anyone. Fisher: No. Rivers is the fourth-ranked fantasy QB and has almost doubled his projected points totals through two weeks but I dont think itll last. Rivers will eventually fall to QB2 status where he belongs, although thats higher than some had him ahead of the season. Too much has fallen in Rivers favour to think his two-week performance is anything more than a hot run. San Diego has duked it out in all-offensive wars each of their first two games this year, forcing the Chargers to lean toward the pass over the run, and Rivers favourite connection has been the similarly shaky fantasy performer Eddie Royal. Theres no doubt Mike McCoy will be a breath of fresh air for Rivers and San Diegos offence, but I think well see a happy medium between last years numbers and this years fast start develop for Rivers starting this week in Tennessee. Ward: Will the real Philip Rivers please stand up? Im not going all in on the Rivers revival just yet. While I think you can expect better production out of him in Mike McCoys system this season, his arm just isnt what it once was and he doesnt have the weapons to produce QB1 numbers on a consistent basis. If he was on my team, Id probably be looking to sell high. 2) With Knowshon Moreno looking entrenched as the Broncos starter at RB, is he worth starting on your team every week? Cullen: If youre starting two backs, sure, its reasonable to start Moreno, but I dont know that hes so entrenched in the spot. The injury to left tackle Ryan Clady might help Moreno in that respect, because his blitz pickup is one of the advantages he holds over Montee Ball, but its still worth noting that Moreno had 16 touches to Balls 14 in Week Two. The production was much more in favour of Moreno (107 yards and two touchdowns compared to Balls 41 yards) and thats why hes worth starting right now, but I dont yet have the feeling that Moreno is a locked-in, guaranteed starter for the rest of the season. Fisher: Moreno is your prototypical boom or bust candidate, only with the added deterrent of two other RBs on the roster close to stealing touches. Moreno is the teams leading back because he protects Peyton Manning better than the others and anyone getting regular snaps in that offence is bound to have big scoring days like Moreno had last week, but they arent going to come every week. If its not Morenos time to shine in the Broncos offence, you could be looking at a five-point day from one of your starting RBs. Not good enough. If you have nobody else, take the chance Moreno will have another ‘boom week, but a more consistent back, who is at less risk of losing touches, could be the safer route. Ward: For now. You definitely wouldnt want him as your top back, but he has value as a mid- to low-end RB2 right now. The Broncos coaching staff has completely soured on Ronnie Hillman and Montee Ball just isnt ready to play a ton of snaps with his fumbling and pass protection issues. The Broncos will be playing with a lead for most of the year which should mean plenty of touches for Moreno in the second half of games. Eventually Ball will eat into his touches, but as long as Moreno is at the top of the depth chart, roll him out there. 3) What is TE Jordan Camerons ceiling in Cleveland? Cullen: There are a couple of moves this week that might lower Camerons ceiling a bit. After two weeks, he ranked second among tight ends with 203 receiving yards and I would have been inclined to say that he has a chance to be a Top Five tight end, because the tight end group gets rather muddled after the top three or four. But then the Browns named Brian Hoyer as their starting quarterback. Its not like Brandon Weeden is a world-beater, but hes had more than 96 career pass attempts and Hoyer hasnt done anything to this point in his career to generate confidence. So that counts against Cameron somewhat. The other factor is the trade of RB Trent Richardson to Indianapolis. Combining iffy quarterback play with a now unproven running game sounds like a lot more three-and-outs for a Browns offence that was already capable of putting those on the board. With those two factors taken into account, I think Cameron can still be a Top 10 tight end, but its lower than I would have suggested, say, Sunday night. Fisher: Cameron looks closer and closer to the real deal every week, even in Clevelands offence. Hes the fifth-rated TE through two weeks despite playing in 31st ranked offence, with the 29th ranked QB. The former fourth-rounder seems like a legit talent at tight end as more and more pure athletes are turning the position into a premier one. He could have a ceiling as high as Top 3 (behind Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham) if of course, he played somewhere other than Cleveland. His floor could be amongst the almost elite, think Vernon Davis and Jason Witten, and with the Browns feeble offence, hell likely be stuck closer to that than his ceiling. Camerons fantasy stock could drop a little for Week 3 with surprise starter Brian Hoyer taking over for the injured Brandon Weeden, but he has enough talent to still produce TE1 numbers. Ward: Even with the Browns middling quarterback play (and thats being generous), Cameron is a solid TE1. Put him on a better team, with a better quarterback and he has top-3 potential. Hes big, super athletic and is developing into an excellent route-runner. Even with Josh Gordons return from suspension, Cameron could remain the Browns top receiving option. Cheap NBA Jerseys For Sale . Financial terms were not disclosed. The Rangers acquired Detwiler from Washington in a December trade, sending a pair of minor leaguers to the Nationals. After missing most of the 2013 season because of back issues, Detwiler went 2-3 with a 4.00 ERA in 47 relief appearances for the Nationals last season. Marian Gaborik is on the move once again. https://www.lacfootballshop.com/94-Jersey . The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded Gaborik to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Matt Frattin, a second-round draft pick and a conditional third-round pick. Gaborik, 31, has appeared in 22 games with the Blue Jackets this season, scoring six goals and eight assists. He is currently in the final year of a five-year, $37.5 million contract he signed with the New York Rangers prior to the 2009-10 season and is slated to become an unrestricted free-agent on July 1. Gaborik was selected third overall at the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild. He has appeared in 791 career NHL games with the Wild, Rangers and Blue Jackets, scoring 342 goals and 346 assists. The Blue Jackets acquired him from the Rangers prior to the 2013 NHL trade deadline along with Blake Parlett and Steven Delisle in exchange for Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett, John Moore and a sixth-round draft pick. Gaborik has represented Slovakia on a number of occasions including the 2006 and 2010 Olympics. He was selected to his nations team for the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia but was unable to play due to injury. Frattin, 26, was acquired by the Kings from the Toronto Maple Leafs over the off-season as part of the return for goaltender Jonathan Bernier. In 40 games with the Kings this season he has scored two goals and four assists. In 122 career games with the Maple Leafs and Kings, Frattin has scored 17 goals and 17 assists. He was originally selected in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Maple Leafs. https://www.lacfootballshop.com/42-Jersey . Patton was placed on the restricted list testing positive for a banned amphetamine. Patton took Adderall, a drug commonly used to combat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, late in the 2013 season and then was given a random drug test.LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Jameis Winston threw three touchdowns to offset a three-interception start and Dalvin Cook had two long scoring runs to help second-ranked Florida State rally for a 42-31 victory over Louisville on Thursday night. Florida State overcame a 21-0 deficit for its 24th straight victory, with Cook giving the Seminoles the lead for good with a 38-yard run with 3:46 remaining. Out of sorts and on the verge of having its College Football Playoff prospects damaged, the Seminoles (8-0, 5-0 Atlantic Coast Conference, No. 2 CFP) recovered behind their Heisman Trophy quarterback and Cook, who had a 40-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. All of Winstons TD passes were big. He hit Travis Rudolph for 68 yards, Ermon Lane for 47, and Freddie Stevenson for the 35-yard clincher with 2:11 remaining. Winston was 25 of 48 for 401 yards. More important for the Seminoles was maintaining their national championship hopes on a night that Louisville (6-3, 4-3, No. 25 CFP) nearly took them away twice. The presence of Muhammad Ali was fitting in a game that the Cardinals initially dominated with a smashmouth approach that provided a 21-point first-half lead and knocked the Seminoles on the ropes. Michael Dyer had TD runs of 4 and 12 yards and Gerald Christian caught an 11-yard scoring pass from Will Gardner. https://www.lacfootballshop.com/27-Jersey. Florida State began its comeback just before halftime when Winston, shaking off two interceptions that Louisville turned into 14 points, led the Seminoles 78 yards on a drive that ended weird touchdown when Nick OLeary recovered Karlos Williams fumble in the end zone. The intermission gave Winston and Florida State time to regroup, though not before his third interception and second by Louisville safety Gerod Holliman. Ironically, Winstons biggest play came after the pickoff as he came up and stripped Holliman of the ball, which Travis Rudolph recovered at the Florida State 40. The Seminoles turned it over on downs but Winston found Rudolph wide open down the middle between two defenders for a 68-yard TD strike that cut it to 24-14 with 9:51 left in the quarter. Florida States swagger was back, and Cook turned it into a 40-yard touchdown run nearly 4 minutes later to bring the Seminoles within a field goal. Winstons TD pass to Lane with 12:48 left provided Florida States first lead and the game became a slugfest from there as Dyer answered for Louisville with a 1-yard TD run with 9:20 left. The Seminoles took charge from there with Cooks TD run and Stevensons pass from Winston. ' ' '

The New Jersey Devils added a veteran scoring winger who has trouble staying healthy, but is coming off a terrific season. https://www.jacksonvillefootballshop.com/43-Jersey . Numbers Game looks at the Devils signing Mike Cammalleri. The Devils Get: LW Mike Cammalleri. Cammalleri, 32, has been a productive goal-scorer, topping 20 goals six times in his career, but hes also had a hard time staying healthy, missing at least 15 games in four of the past five seasons. However, if a team understands that injuries are likely to be part of the package, they can also understand that a healthy Cammalleri has not only has he been able to score, but last season he was really effective as an all-around player, putting up strong relative possession numbers despite facing high-quality opposition and starting more of his shifts in the defensive zone. Those relative possession stats were dramatically better than previous seasons, so that doesnt necessarily mean thats his standard level, but its some evidence that Cammalleri is more than just a triggerman. Hes joining a Devils team that already puts up strong possession numbers, but has been unable to finish enough. For whatever it might be worth, Cammalleri is also 7-for-20 (35.0%) in shootouts over the past five years, and while thats a little above average, its miles ahead of what the Devils mustered as a team last year, when they were 4-for-51 (7.8%) in losing all 13 shootout decisions. While Cammalleri plays frequently on the wing, hes also played centre -- took the second-most draws on the Flames in 2012-2013 -- and that could be useful for the Devils, who are going to have to mix and match some pieces up front, but have enough to put together three pretty solid lines. Adding a goal-scorer certainly addresses the Devils needs. They ranked 27th in the league with 2.40 goals per game last season, so adding a proven finisher is worthwhile. The trouble, as it often seems to be with the Devils, is that the term is steep for a 32-year-old. Maybe five years and $25-million is the going rate for what Cammalleri provides, but its hard to envision the Devils getting a positive return on investment when Cammalleri is 35 and 36-years-old. Sure, New Jersey has been getting great production from Jaromir Jagr and Patrik Elias, who are well beyond that age but, among 32 forwards who were at least 35-years-old last season, five managed to score more than 20 goals. The Flames will miss Cammalleri. They added Mason Raymond as a free agent, and Raymonds speed is an asset, but hes not the same kind of offensive threat that Cammalleri is, so its hard to expect that the Flames will thrive offensively without their third-leading scorer from last season. Being a dominant college pitcher, the Blue Jays were expecting Marcus Stroman to contribute to the big league team sooner rather than later when they drafted him in the first round of the 2013 draft. https://www.houstonfootballshop.com/73-Jersey . Now a part of the Blue Jays bullpen, Stroman joined TSN 1050 to talk about his early-season call-up, how he uses his small size as motivation, and how his ultimate goal is to be a part of the teams starting rotation. Stroman: Ultimate goal is to be in rotation https://www.houstonfootballshop.com/79-Jersey . The Incheon-based tea, of the Korea Baseball Organization said the deal for the 35-year-old Scott included a $50,000 signing bonus. Scott reached the major leagues with Houston in 2005 and hit 23 homers or more for Baltimore each year from 2008-10. https://www.houstonfootballshop.com/63-Jersey .Y. - Phil Varone was the lone scorer in the shootout as the Rochester Americans edged the Toronto Marlies 3-2 on Sunday in American Hockey League action.Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Former Ranger Ryan Callahan had two goals and an assist against his ex-team to spoil Martin St. Louis return to Tampa and help the Lightning to a 4-3 victory over New York. The pregame buildup was solely centered on St. Louis first game in Amalie Arena since the Lightnings all-time leading scorer requested and was granted a trade to the Rangers on March 5. However, it was Callahan -- the key player Tampa Bay received in the blockbuster swap -- who earned the nights First Star as St. Louis was held off the scoresheet. Steven Stamkos made quite an impact as well, notching a goal and two assists in the Lightnings fourth win in their last six outings, including two in a row by one goal. Ben Bishop finished with 16 saves in the triumph. Another one-goal game, said Stamkos. We hold on and find a way to win these games and thats a good trait to have. New York entered the anticipated matchup off shutout wins over Philadelphia and Montreal, but Henrik Lundqvist stopped just 25-of-29 shots and St. Louis was mostly a non-factor. Rick Nash did record a goal and an assist for the Rangers, with Mats Zuccarello and Dan Boyle also scoring in defeat. Callahan accounted for the first two of three consecutive Tampa Bay goals that erased a 2-1 deficit late in the opening period, during which St. Louis received a generally positive ovation from the home crowd as a video saluting his 12 1/2-year tenure with the Lightning was shown on the scoreboard. A double-minor penalty to Nash led to Callahans initial tally of the night, with the former Rangers captain crashing the net to re-direct a long drive from Jason Garrison 2:26 prior to the first intermission. Callahans second came midway through the second period off a pinpoint pass from Stamkos, who wheeled around the New York net to set up his teammaate for a successful wrister in close that put the Lightning up 3-2. https://www.houstonfootballshop.com/43-Jersey. Boyle nearly tied it just seconds into the third with a blast that struck the post, but the Rangers later fell behind by two when Matt Carles point shot deflected off Kucherovs skate and trickled by Lundqvist with 10:22 to go. Nash got New York back within one when he turned a giveaway from Tampas Andrej Sustr into his 15th goal of the season with 7:11 left to play. Down two goals obviously were going to take some chances, said Boyle. You can take some risks. But the Lightning held on for the two points. Stamkos quickly put to rest any hopes of a third straight Rangers shutout, with the star center setting off a flurry of first-period goals by rifling a shot over Lundqvists left shoulder on a Tampa power play just 5:25 into the contest. New York answered just over 3 1/2 minutes later when Sustr fanned on a clearing attempt, creating a 2-on-1 between Nash and Zuccarello in which Bishop had no chance to turn away the latters attempt. The Lightning took a too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty less than two minutes after Zuccarellos score, with the Rangers converting the chance on Boyles one-timer off a Derek Stepan feed. Game Notes Callahan also had two goals in the first meeting between the clubs since the trade, a 5-1 Lightning win at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 17 ... The Lightning are now 13-0-0 following the trade when Callahan scores at least one goal ... Nashs assist on Zuccarellos marker was the 300th of his career ... Lightning forward Alex Killorn extended his career-best point streak to six games with an assist on Callahans second goal ... Boyles goal was the free- agent pickups first point as a Ranger ... Bishop improved to 7-0-0 all-time against New York. ' ' '
