MONTREAL -- Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg still have the fastest car on the track, but the competition may not be quite so far behind at the Canadian Grand Prix. Nike Air Max Belgie Online . Practice day on Friday saw Fernando Alonso bring his Ferrari around Circuit Gilles Villeneuve with the fastest time in the morning practice, only to see the Hamilton and Rosberg dominate the afternoon session in their Mercedes AMGs. "The Ferraris looked quite close today and the rest of the field seemed closer in general, but hopefully not too close," said Hamilton. "Its very hard to overtake here, so pole position is important. "Nico looked very quick as well, so I have my work cut out for sure. Well find out everyones pace in qualifying (Saturday) afternoon, so lets wait and see what happens." Hamilton thrives on the tightly-cornered 4,361-kilometre circuit, and the superior power of this years Mercedes engine makes the Briton and his German-Finnish teammate Rosberg heavy favourites to stretch their winning run to start the Formula One season to seven races. Hamilton is a three-time winner in Montreal, and will be gunning for his fourth pole position in qualifying. Rosberg is looking for a second pole and a second win in a row after a victory at Monaco two weeks ago. "It felt pretty good out there, but weve still got improvements to make and there is more to come from the set-up and balance," said Hamilton. "Were not quite where we want to be yet." Hamilton posted a quickest lap of one minute 16.118 seconds, just ahead of Rosberg at 1:16.293. Defending champion Sebastian Vettels Red Bull car was third at 1:16.573 followed by the two Ferraris, Kimi Raikkonen in 1:16.573 and Alonso in 1:16.701. "Im still a tenth off the quickest time so Ill work hard with our engineers to find that extra pace," said Rosberg. "Its a unique track here, and its very difficult to hit the curbs just right." The Mercedes team has been all-but unbeatable since the switch to more fuel-efficient 1.6-litre turbo engines this season. They have won every race, with Hamilton taking four and Rosberg two, and have finished one-two in the last five. There has been more competition between the teammates than with the rest of the grid so far, but perhaps the tracks peculiarities, and its lurking dangers, will make a race of it on Sunday. The circuit features long straightaways leading into sharp turns. There are chicanes, including one near the home stretch that has sent many top drivers into the concrete barrier known as the Wall of Champions. "It is a short lap here, which closes up the field anyway, but it feels like Ferrari might be pushing us harder this weekend," said Mercedes executive director Toto Wolff. "We will need to get every detail right to deliver our potential in the race, so theres plenty of work still ahead of us." Alonso caused a mild surprise by beating the Mercedes in the morning practice session, but Rosberg topped the Spaniards time of 1:17.238 early in the afternoon runs. When the Mercedes drivers switched to supersoft tires 30 minutes into the afternoon, they were too quick for the field. The two-time world champion Spaniard, a winner in Canada in 2006, is a distant third in drivers standings behind the two Mercedes but it is still early in the 19-race season. He said this week his car is improving, even if the gap with Mercedes will be very difficult to close. "Its going to be tough," said Alonso. "There are updates coming to the car that weve been working on for some weeks. "All these hopes, we need to see it on the track. Its one of the shorter circuits, so we expect the times to be really close. So we need to find perfection. One or two tenths can be six or seven positions. We need to be in the front of those cars." The large crowd that turned out on a cool, overcast day got its first earful of the new F1 engines, which no longer have the high-pitched whine that was the sports signature sound for years. Instead, its a much quieter rumble. Jacques Villeneuve, the 1997 F1 champion and a native of Iberville, Que., has no problem with the sound. "The problem with the engine isnt the volume," said Villeneuve. "Its good. "You can bring your kids and you know that you wont blow their eardums. Thats a good thing. You can have a phone conversation. The problem you can feel that theres no power. Theres no grunt. If you look at the turbos in the 1980s, the volume wasnt really louder, but you could tell the drivers were fighting with a wild animal. Thats not the case now." A dicey moment came 27 minutes in when Adrian Sutil had to take a short cut over a curb to avoid crashing into Kevin Magnussens slow-moving McLaren. Stewards investigated the incident and decided it did not warrant a penalty. However, Red Bulls Daniel Riccardo was given a reprimand for passing Pastor Maldonados Lotus in "a manner potentially dangerous to others" in pit lane. It was the Aussies first reprimand of the season. Jules Bianchi of Marussia hit a wall hard and sustained heavy damage in the morning practice but the French driver felt he would be will be OK afternoon. But after three laps his Ferrari-powered car stayed in the garage most of the afternoon. Caterham had 22-year-old American Alexander Rossi in Kamui Kobayashis car for the first practice, although the Japanese driver took over in the afternoon session. Rossi, a GP2 driver being groomed for F1, was last in the 22-car field at 1:21.757, just behind teammate Marcus Ericsson. Rossi will also drive in practice at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas in November. Nike Air Max Belgie Kopen .com) - James Harden put the Houston Rockets on his back and willed them to an overtime victory on Thursday. Nike Air Max Aanbieding . The idea came about just over three years after Schmirler was standing on the podium in Nagano 1998, signing our national anthem after capturing the Olympic gold medal in womens curling. Unfortunately, it was also just 14 months after she passed away from a rare form of cancer at the young age of 36. Much like the success Schmirler enjoyed on the ice, the foundation started in her name has been a winner at providing hospitals with funding for the care of premature and critically ill newborn babies across Canada. Despite all the big curling shots she made over the years, including the famous in-off at the 1997 Olympic Trials, Schmirler said giving birth to her only daughter at the time was her best delivery. It was clear that Schmirler never lost sight of what was important in life, which makes her name a perfect fit for the foundation, which bears the slogan Champions start small. Goedkope Nike Air Max. Currently, over 30 hospitals benefit as a result of funding from the foundation and last year, almost $300,000 was made available to those hospitals through grants. And over the 13 years the foundation has been in existence, almost $2.5 million has been allocated to 34 different hospitals Also, six junior curlers received $5,000 each in the first annual Spirit of Sandra Scholarships last year, including Kristin Streifel, who skipped Schmirlers home province of Saskatchewan in this years Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Nova Scotia. Sunday is Sandra Schmirler Day at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Montreal and TSNs Vic Rauter will be hosting the annual telethon for the foundation. After Canada tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third inning, Mexicos Luis Rodriguez hit a two-run shot to right field. The third baseman went 3-for-3 on the day, adding a single and a double. Garza added a double in the fourth inning, bringing in Miguel De La Guente for a three-run advantage. He held the Canadians in check with nine strikeouts, allowing two hits in four innings. Canada added two runs in the fifth. Dekker scored 13 of those points in the first half for the Badgers (10-1), who led by as much as 45. Josh Gasser added 14 points for Wisconsin, and Nigel Hayes chipped in 12 points and eight boards. Amin Torres scored 14 points off the bench to lead the Colonels (1-5), and Sam McBeath netted nine points on 4-of-6 shooting. Wisconsin owned a 41-26 edge on the boards and outscored Nicholls 36-26 in the paint. The Badgers also scored 19 points off 21 Colonels turnovers. The Colonels never led in what quickly became a blowout. It took over four minutes for Nicholls to get its second basket and then six minutes to get its third. Nicholls started the game 4-of-21 as the Badgers ran out to a 39-8 lead, and it finished the half with an abysmal 24.1 field goal percentage. Well, they are as good as advertised in my opinion, said Colonels coach J.P. Piper. Weve watched a lot of tape, and everything we thought would be a problem for us tonight was in fact a problem for us. Air Max Pas Cher Belgique. Meanwhile the Badgers, particularly Dekker and Hayes, could not be stopped. They took a 47-15 lead into the locker room with those two combining for 24 points on 10-of-11 shooting. Wisconsin combined to shoot 70.4 percent as a team. Overall, I think we were pretty balanced, said Dekker. Its good to get other guys in the game and get them double figure minutes when they may not get to play as much. The Colonels managed to shoot 47.8 percent in the second half, but they fell behind even more. Wisconsins shooting went cold from the field and had to make up for it at the line. The Badgers hit 20-of-26 from the charity stripe to make up for their 33.3 percent second-half performance from the floor. Game Notes This was the first meeting between these teams ... MILAN, Italy -- Indonesian entrepreneur Erick Thohir and two associates signed a deal to take over a majority stake of 18-time Italian champion Inter Milan on Tuesday, becoming the second foreign owners in Serie A. Goedkoop Air Max Kopen . The takeover reportedly cost 350 million euros ($475 million). Thohir, and fellow Indonesians Rosan Roeslani and Handy Soetedjo agreed to buy a 70 per cent stake, Inter said on its website. The first Serie A club to cede majority ownership to foreigners was Roma, which was taken over by a group of Boston executives in 2011. The 43-year-old Thohir is part owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and D.C. United. He is chairman of the Mahaka Group, which has business interests in media and entertainment. "Today is a truly special day in my life," Thohir said. "I am honoured that Mr. Moratti has entrusted me with the responsibility to lead Inter into the next chapter, and I am excited to have him continue in the future as my partner. The job done by the Moratti family, from Angelos great Inter to Massimos treble record, has made Inter one of the most respected clubs in the world." Thohir has also served as vice-president of the Indonesian Olympic Committee and as Indonesias chief of mission for the 2012 London Olympics. "I am an entrepreneur but first of all I am a supporter and a sports lover," Thohir said. "I cannot wait to put our passion and international experience at the service of this fantastic club and its supporters." It remains unclear if the 68-year-old Moratti, who has owned the club since 1995, will remain president. "That I dont know," Moratti said outside the office of his family oil company, Saras. "Every president leaves his mark," Moratti added. "The important thing is that hes always respectful of the rest of the world, beyond his own job, and I think these people also have that in mind. ... Theyre people that really mean well and are good character-wise, too." Inter and city rival AC Milan have each won 18 Serie A titles, second on the all-time list behind Juventus record 29. Inter has also won three European Cups. Moratti took over the club after his father Angelo was owner during the teams early glory years in the 1960s, when Inter won the European Cup twice. After some difficult years under the younger Moratti, Inter returned to the top after the 2006 match-fixing scandal and won five consecutive Serie A titles from 2006-2010. In 2010, Inter also won the Champions League and the Italian Cup for an unprecedented treble in Italy, with Jose Mourinho as manager. However, Inter struggled again in the past two seasons -- finishing sixth in 2012 and ninth last season with the same number of losses (16) as wins. Inter is coming off its first loss of this season, a 3-0 defeat to first-place Roma, which left the team in fourth place under first-year manager Walter Mazzarri. General Manager Sam Presti said the three-time All-Star had knee swelling that would not subside, and the procedure was intended to solve the problem. The defensive inconsistency that cost Randy Carlyle his job is mostly gone, but at the same time the goals have disappeared. When you think about it, if youre playing better defensively and youre giving up less chances, youre thinking youre going to be in a better position, Horachek said.Youd think that, but the Leafs have scored just seven goals during an embarrassing 0-7-1 slide, including just five at even strength. It has become a baffling stretch of a season thats beginning to look all too much like — to quote former Leafs GM Brian Burke — an 18-wheeler going off a cliff. If youre getting the same number of chances as we were when we were not playing as well defensively, you would think that the message should be: Just finish your chances, Horachek said after Thursdays 3-1 loss to the Coyotes. Because were not getting less chances, were getting the same number of chances.Injuries have played a role, but now that Joffrey Lupul is back and only captain Dion Phaneuf is missing, its no longer a valid excuse.Lupul returned Thursday night against Arizona after missing 11 games with a lower-body injury. Forced to watch a lot of bad hockey, the winger saw improvement at one end of the ice but not much to show for it at the other. Our team game looks better, but individually were struggling to make the big play at the critical time, Lupul said. Were doing some things right, but obviously youve got to score goals.Phil Kessel scored his 20th of the season against Arizona, but it was also his first at even strength in 19 games dating to Dec. 16.Hopefully I can get going, Kessel said. Its frustrating right now.Kessel said he wasnt sure if his goal might jump-start the offence going into Saturdays game at the Philadelphia Flyers, the first of three straight on the road. As a team, hes not quite sure what the Leafs have to do to score.Youve got to bury it, right? Kessel said. I think weve got to get more bodies to the net and create more secondary chances. Get a break, once in a while. Get a good bounce. We dont seem to be getting them. Nike Air Max Outlet Nederland. Bad bounces are bothering the bewildered Leafs, but its more than that. Theyve struggled to score since Horachek arrived preaching a more defensively responsible style.Changing systems on the fly is guaranteed to cause some stumbling, but 14 goals in 10 games and only one victory to show for isnt what management wanted to see after firing Carlyle.Perhaps this should have been expected. When the Capitals visited for Horacheks debut, his friend and mentor Barry Trotz offered some thoughts on what happens early in a transition like this, similar to the one he made in Washington months ago.Theres growing pains because youre going to play really well, and even if youre playing well defensively you might not get the wins, Trotz said. You always get tested how far youre going to come off the rail, if you will, to have balance in your game.Balance has been difficult for the Leafs to find. Progress is being measured in tiny increments. In Wednesdays shootout loss at the New Jersey Devils, Horachek was glad his team didnt give up a first-period goal — which had been a trend — and didnt have to play catch-up. He was also satisfied with the quality of scoring chances. Were getting chances from the A areas, Horachek said. We have to spend more time in those areas, whatever you want to call it, the lions den, the house, and get more people in those areas.Sometimes when the goals arent going in, you have to get more of a greasy goal, youre going to have to get more of an ugly goal. Pucks are going (to have) to have more traffic and people slapping in a rebound or going off a skate and youre going to have to find ways to get it in.These Leafs are built more to score on the rush than from the side of the net. With goals hard to come by from anywhere, Lupul said that after a while Im sure guys lose their confidence.Horachek is trying to keep confidence up.You have to take solace in that and say, OK, its moving in the right direction, he said. Were going to stay course, believe in what were doing and hopefully things will be more favourable.---Follow @SWhyno on Twitter Authentic Nike Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Tennessee Titans Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Washington Redskins Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Arizona Cardinals Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Denver Broncos Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Green Bay Packers Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Los Angeles Chargers Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike New England Patriots Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Oakland Raiders Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Seattle Seahawks Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Carolina Panthers Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Cleveland Browns Jerseys Cheap Cheap Throwback Baseball Arizona Diamondbacks Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Atlanta Braves Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Baltimore Orioles Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Boston Red Sox JerseysCheap Throwback Baseball Chicago Cubs Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Chicago White Sox Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Cincinnati Reds Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Cleveland Indians Jerseys ' ' '

Duda singled home the go-ahead run with one out in the 11th inning to lead the New York Mets to a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. It was New Yorks 11th victory over the Phillies in the last 12 games in Philadelphia. Long after starters Cole Hamels and Dillon Gee exited following their duel, Curtis Granderson opened the 11th with a single off Antonio Bastardo (5-5). Following an out, David Wright singled and Eric Campbell walked to load the bases. Duda then lined Bastardos first pitch sharply into right field to score Granderson. "I was lucky enough to just elevate a ball and sneak it over the second basemans head," Duda said. The hit was just the 12th in 71 at-bats for the left-handed hitting Duda against lefty pitchers. He also singled in the fifth against Hamels. "Im really happy for him and happy for us that hes in there, and hes going to fight and hes going to battle and try to put some good at-bats on left-handed pitching," Mets manager Terry Collins said. Duda raised his average against lefties to .169. "Its great for him, great for his confidence and everything else," Collins said. Justin De Fratus relieved Bastardo and got the final two outs. Dana Eveland (1-1) retired the Phillies in order in the 10th for the win. Jeurys Familia earned his second save in six opportunities but had to wriggle out of a two-out jam to get it. "That was a good grind-out win for us," Collins said. Ryan Howard singled and Marlon Byrd walked to put runners on first and second in the 11th for Domonic Brown. But Familia got Brown to ground out to shortstop. Regular Mets closer Jenrry Mejia wasnt available after a heavy workload the previous two nights, Collins said before the game. Carlos Ruiz homered for the Phillies, who dropped to 12-48 when scoring three runs or less. "We just werent able to put some runs on the board," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. Hamels continued his dominant stretch but didnt get anything to show for it. The left-hander allowed one run and five hits in seven innings with five strikeouts and three walks. The Mets scored in the fifth off Hamels, snapping his 22-inning steak without allowing an earned run. New York loaded the bases with no outs on singles by Duda and Juan Lagares sandwiched around a walk to Travis dArnaud. Duda then scored on Wilmer Flores hard-hit grounder. Third baseman Cody Asche lunged to stop the ball, but elected to throw to second rather than attempt to get Duda at home. Hamels threw up his hands in disgust after the run crossed. "Cody made an outstanding catch," Hamels said. "I knew that run was going to score." The Phillies tied it in the seventh on Ruizs two-out homer to left. MANUEL HONORED Former Phillies manager Charlie Manuel was inducted into the clubs Wall of Fame in a pregame ceremony that included Hall-of-Famers and fellow inductees Jim Bunning, Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton. Manuel managed nearly nine seasons and owns the Phillies record for most games managed (1,416) and most victories (780). He led the Phillies to five straight NL East titles and two World Series appearances and the 2008 championship. Manuel, one of the most beloved managers or coaches in Philadelphia sports history, delivered a moving and humorous speech during the pregame. "I never thought Id ever coach in big leagues," Manuel said. "My intention was to teach and hang around ballpark so I could take BP." SNAKE-BITTEN HAMELS? Hamels has a 0.73 ERA in his last five starts but is 3-1. It was the ninth no-decision for Hamels (6-6), who has been a victim of lack of run support this season. "Cole is on a terrific run," Sandberg said. "You almost come to expect it. But weve been coming up short on run support." The lefty has maintained a good attitude through the lack of offensive help. "I just have to keep on pitching and see what happens," he said. GEES TURNAROUND It was a turnaround outing for Gee, who was 0-3 with a 6.85 ERA in his last four starts. It also was an improvement in Philadelphia, where Gee had a 9.56 ERA in seven appearances (six starts) entering Saturday. OTTAWA -- Canadian athletes keep racking up medals at the Sochi Olympics, and now more money is coming their way to keep them on the podium. Authentic West Virginia Jerseys . Finance Minister Jim Flahertys latest budget -- released Tuesday while many Canadians were likely more interested on the Winter Games -- includes a $23-million annual boost in sports funding, starting next year. Of that, $11 million will be set aside for winter sports through Own the Podium, a not-for-profit group created to boost Canadas Olympic performances. The goal of Own the Podium is to prioritize funding on the Olympic and Paralympic sports in which Canada has the best shot at winning medals. It was born from the countrys crushing disappointment at failing to win gold medals on home turf at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal and then again at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Canada went on to win a record 14 gold medals at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver and a total of 18 medals at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The Canadian Olympic Committees goal for the Sochi Games is to improve on Vancouvers medal haul and finish at the top of the table for overall medals. So far, Canada has four more medals than at this point at the 2010 Games. On Tuesday, Canada trailed only Norway in the standings. Freestyle skier Dara Howell won Canadas fourth gold of the Sochi Games in the womens slopestyle event, while her teammate Kim Lamarre won the bronze. That brought Canadas medal count to nine -- four gold, three silver and two bronze. Only Norway, with 11 medals, has won more medals in Sochi. The rest of the $23 million in Flahertys budget will be divvied up between team sports, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and Special Olympics Canada. In addition to that money, Special Olympics Canada is getting another $10.8-million spread over four years. "All Canadians are cheering on our Canadian athletes and coaches and celebrating their outstanding accomplishments at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia," the budget says. Also included in the budget is a measure aimed at retirement savings for amateur athletes. The measure would allow any income amateur athletes contributes to a trust to count as earned income for the purpose of determining their annual RRSP limit. Right now, any income contributed to an amateur athlete trust doesnt count as earned income, which limits the amount they can contribute to an RRSP. Throwback West Virginia Jerseys . 3 seed Phillip Kohlschreiber from Germany. HALIFAX - Saint Marys University says it has suspended six members of its football team for allegedly tweeting messages of hate, racism and sexual violence. Nike Shoes Clearance Sale . The move comes after an online publication produced by students at the University of Kings College School of Journalism cited a number of tweets from accounts it said belonged to members of the football team. A spokesman for Saint Marys University said Monday that officials have spoken to the football players and are trying to confirm if they sent the tweets as reported in UNews. Steve Proctor said if a player denies he sent the tweet, the university will conduct an investigation. "Weve told them they are suspended," Proctor said. "If theyre denying that its their posting, then well go back and well say, Lets look and see what the evidence is." Proctor said the university may also decide to impose further academic discipline. David Gauthier, the universitys academic and research vice-president, said in a news release the tweets arent consistent with the schools values, calling them "completely inappropriate and unacceptable." One of the tweets quoted by UNews said: "to that b**ch that bit me last night. Hope your dead in a ditch. you are scum." Another tweet included an offensive term for gays. The university attracted national attention last September over a student-led chant that glorified sex with underage girls. In December, the university endorsed a report from an independent council that contained 20 recommendations on cultural changes to prevent sexual violence and inspire respectful behaviour and a safe learning environment at the school. Wholesale Air Max For Sale . Andrew Harrison converted 3-of-4 foul shots down the stretch and Fred VanVleets contested 3-pointer fell short just prior to the buzzer, allowing Kentucky to reach the Sweet 16 by knocking off the Shockers, 78-76, in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Harrison ended up with 20 points for the Wildcats (26-10), who advance to take on Louisville next Friday in Indianapolis in the Midwest Region semifinals. Aaron Harrison added 19 points, with James Young and Julius Randle contributing 13 apiece for the victors. Cleanthony Early totaled a game-high 31 points for the Shockers (35-1), who set an NCAA record for most wins in one season without suffering a loss, but ultimately failed in their bid to reach the Final Four for the second straight year. Ron Baker converted 4-of-6 shots from long range en route to 20 points, but VanVleet was held to four points on 1-of-6 shooting, including 0-for-4 from beyond the arc. A long two by Early put WSU up 71-70 with 2:16 remaining, but Young countered with a triple from the top of the key and Kentucky took a 73-71 edge on the next possession. A trey from Tekele Cotton then rolled in and out, and Andrew Harrison made two at the line with 42.6 showing for a four-point Wildcats spread. Baker hit a banked three from the left side to bring the Shockers within 75-74, before Randle drained both of his free throws to push his clubs edge back to three. Baker was called upon again from the left wing, but his next long-range attempt fell short. Early, however, was fouled on the offensive board and made two at the line with 9.8 to play for a 77-76 score. Andrew Harrison earned his second chance at the charity stripe, making the first and missing the second. Authentic Wholesale Nike Shoes. Early picked up the ball, flew up court and Wichita State called timeout with 3.2 seconds to go. VanVleet let fly from 25 feet away, but the shot was just off the mark, hitting the rim and backboard. Andrew Harrisons triple gave the Wildcats some separation prior to the midway point of the opening 20 minutes at 19-15, but the edge was short lived. Kentucky was forced to call a timeout after a runner from Early made it 30-23. Cotton began the eventual 17-4 surge with the first five, while VanVleet contributed all four of his points -- including two closing free throws -- for a 32-23 spread with 4:37 left in the half. Wichita State went to intermission ahead 37-31 after a triple by Jarrod Polson reduced Kentuckys gap. Earlys three to kick off the second half was countered by 10 in a row from Kentucky, which took a 41-40 lead after Alex Poythress converted a layup. Baker followed with six in a row on a trey and a three-point play and WSU held a 46-43 lead, then the Wildcats struck back for seven straight and Willie Cauley-Steins slam put them up 50-46. Momentum shifted once more, as the Shockers embarked on a 12-5 run ending just after the midway point of the half to take a 58-55 advantage on the second of Earlys back-to-back buckets. Wichita State held Kentucky at arms length until a roller from Young put the Wildcats up 70-69 with 2:49 to play. Game Notes These programs met for the first time on Sunday ... Early shot 12-of-17 from the field and made 4-of-6 shots from distance ... Randle led all players with 10 rebounds and dished out a team-high six assists ... SOCHI, Russia -- Canada was a second-half team at the 2010 Winter Olympics. The medal intake in Sochi is forecasted to happen at a more measured pace. Starting with Saturdays mens snowboard slopestyle and womens moguls, Canada has at least one legitimate medal shot, if not more, virtually every day until the closing ceremonies Feb. 23. Chef de mission Steve Podborski and his assistants Jean-Luc Brassard and France St. Louis intend to be present at events where a Canadian is a front-runner for a medal. "I would say were booked every day," Podborski said at a Canadian Olympic Committee news conference Thursday. The host country won 18 of its 26 medals in Vancouver during the back half of the Games. Ten of the 14 gold medals came in the second half, including four on the final weekend. Sports making their Olympic debut helped balance the schedule of Canadas medal prospects in Sochi. Mens and womens snowboard slopestyle, the figure skating team event and the luge relay are among the new events over the first eight days of competition in which Canada has solid medal prospects. Thats in addition to Canadas strength in the entrenched sports of alpine skiing, moguls, short-track speedskating and cross-country skiing. "Sure there are new sports and we happen to be very, very good in the new ones because we are a great sporting nation," Podborski said. "With the support were getting now from corporate Canada, Own The Podium and the Government of Canada, we have an opportunity to be good in the traditional sports as well and thats where well make our great gains in the areas where are athletes are getting better . . . cross-country, alpine skiing." Canadas athletes have been waging fierce foosball tournaments in their village lounge while they await Fridays opening ceremonies, according to Podborski. But Olympic competition started early for some Canadians with Thursdays preliminary rounds. Canada sat in second place, two points behind host Russia, after the first day of the new team figure skating event. Torontos Patrick Chan was third in the mens short program, then Meagan Duhamel of Lively, Ont., and Eric Radford of Balmertown, Ont., were second in the pairs short to give Canada 17 of a possible 20 points after the first two events. Sebastien Toutant of LAssomption, Que., and Max Parrot of Bromont, Que., advanced to the mens snowboard slopestyle final Saturday, while Charles Reid of Mont-Tremblant, Que., and Reginas Mark McMorris will attempt to join them via the semifinal earlier in the day. The Dufour-Lapointe sisters from Montreal -- Justine, Chloe and Maxime -- all qualified for Saturdays womens moguls finals as did Audrey Robichaud of Quebec City. Reigning world champion Spencer OBrien of Courtney, B.C., qualified for the womens slopestyle final Sunday. Hockey Canada also made the decision to replace injured forward Steven Stamkos with Tampa Bay teammate Martin St. Louis. No competition is scheduled Friday because of the opening ceremonies. In addition to slopestyle and womens moguls on opening weekend, skiers Erik Guay of Mont-Tremblant, Que., Calgarys Jan Hudec and Manny Osborne-Paradis of Invermere, B.C., are medal prospects in Sundays downhill. Canadas figure skaters are favoured to win a medal in the team event, which ends Sunday. Canadas objective in 2010 was to top the overall medal count and the target remains the same in Sochi. The host team was third in total medals, but won the gold-medal race four years ago. Because of the new sports, there are 36 more medals to be won in 2014 than in 2010. That will help fill Canadas coffers, but also those of top rivals Germany, Norway, the United States and host Russia. "Canada is here to compete and win," COC president Marcel Aubut said. "Our aim is to contend for the number one spot in medals won. Wholesale Warriors Jerseys. ." "This is an ambitious goal, but we Canadians like it this way. Our athletes expect nothing less of themselves but the highest achievements." Added Podborski: "You dont try to come "somewhere up there." We expect great things in Canada now. Its an ideal approach. "We may not win the medal count this time. We may not win it the next time but one day we will because we are striving to be number one in the world in the medal count." While Canadas preparation for 2010 seems a successful model to copy for Sochi, the Canadian Olympic Committee took a different approach. The 2008 Summer Games in Beijing posed similar challenges to Sochi in terms of distance to travel, time-zone difference and unfamiliar language, food and culture. Virtually all of Canadas Olympians competed, trained or at least visited Beijing in the year prior to those Games to get comfortable with the place. The same practice was done for Sochi. There was less emphasis on pre-Games visits for the 2012 Summer Games in London. "If we look at the Beijing experience and we look at the Sochi experience, its actually very similar," COC chief sport officer Caroline Assalian says. "New and unfamiliar environment for most countries. "We ensured that the athletes and support teams as much as possible are familiar with this environment." The COC has conducted exit interviews with athletes, their coaches and support teams following Olympic Games since 2006 to better plan for the next. The athletes were asked "what made the difference in your performance?" "Their number one factor? Feeling part of a larger unified team, more than anything," Assalian said. "Thats what made the difference for them. Coaches and support team? Familiarity with the Olympic environment." And where Beijing was also a benchmark for Sochi was in Canadas conversion rate, which the number of athletes ranked in the top five at their most recent world championships make it onto the podium at the subsequent Olympic Games. The COC employs conversion rates to compare how Canadas athletes are performing compared to other countries. Even though Canada won just 18 medals in Beijing, the conversion rate there was 67 per cent compared to 59 per cent at the Winter Games of both 2010 and 2006, according to Assalian. The Canadian team needs at least match Beijings conversion rate to be in the hunt for the overall title in Sochi. "Our bar now is Beijing," Assalian says. "We know we need to convert better than we ever have at any Winter Olympic Games." The Canadian team will attempt this without the advantage it had in Vancouver and Whistler of home ice and home snow. Own The Podium chief executive officer Anne Merklinger says many winter sport teams have stronger leadership and better coaches since 2010. Both areas were priorities coming out of Vancouver and Whistler and she hopes improvements there compensate for the additional challenges of Sochi. "Weve come a long way in that regard," she says. "Without coaches, were behind the 8-ball. Its the most important success factor. "I think there are a number of examples where weve brought in great coaches, but weve lost some too. We need to find a way to continue to retain the good ones we have and attract new ones." "Were investing in that. Thats what it takes. Its a competitive industry." OTP oversees athletes competitive lives between Olympic Games and allocates about $62 million a year in federal government funding between summer and winter sports. The COC prepares athletes for the Games environment and looks after their needs and wants on the ground in Sochi. Authentic Nike Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Tennessee Titans Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Washington Redskins Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Arizona Cardinals Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Denver Broncos Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Green Bay Packers Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Los Angeles Chargers Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike New England Patriots Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Oakland Raiders Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Seattle Seahawks Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Carolina Panthers Jerseys Cheap Authentic Nike Cleveland Browns Jerseys Cheap Cheap Throwback Baseball Arizona Diamondbacks Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Atlanta Braves Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Baltimore Orioles Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Boston Red Sox Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Chicago Cubs Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Chicago White Sox Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Cincinnati Reds Jerseys Cheap Throwback Baseball Cleveland Indians Jerseys ' ' '

On Monday, Brandon closed the year with the job still incomplete. Though pleased with the direction the team has taken under first-year general manager Doug Whaley and first-year coach Doug Marrone, Brandon expressed disappointment with a 6-10 finish and the Bills extending the NFLs longest active playoff drought to 14 seasons. "I have all the faith and belief in (Marrone) and (Whaley) to keep continuing to get this ship pointed in the right direction and see significant progress as we enter 2014," Brandon said. "What we dont feel good about is sitting here and talking to you at 6-10. And that needs to change." Change was the operative word last off-season, when the Bills went through a near top-to-bottom overhaul. Buffalo purged much of its roster, and began a rebuilding plan that included drafting quarterback EJ Manuel with the 16th pick out of Florida State. The transition has yet to start paying dividends. In closing the season with a 34-20 loss at New England on Sunday, Buffalo finished with six wins for a third consecutive year, ended fourth in the AFC East for a sixth consecutive year, and extended its string of losing seasons to nine dating to a 9-7 finish in 2004. "With youth comes inconsistency," Whaley said. "So all those guys that contributed this year, we expect them to take a bigger step next year, play more consistent and be more productive." And that includes Manuel, who struggled with his consistency, and had his development stunted by injuries to both knees since August. Manuel missed the final two preseason games with a left knee injury. He missed four regular-season games after spraining his right knee in a 37-24 loss at Cleveland. And he then closed the year missing the final two games after tearing a ligament in his left knee. Manuel finished with a 4-6 record, completed just 58.8 per cent of his attempts (180 of 306 for 1,972 yards) and finished with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Marrone maintains confidence in Manuel, and has already informed the quarterback hell be the teams starter entering next season. Dismissing his critics, Manuel called his rookie season a learning process. "Obviously, youre going to have ups and downs as a rookie," Manuel said. "Ive had some good games, and theres a lot I caan take and build from. Nike Air Max Myydään. . I dont really know whos questioning things. But as far as me, Im just continuing to get better." Marrone announced hes already made one change to his staff by firing receivers coach Ike Hilliard because of "a difference in philosophy." Hilliard, who spent 12 seasons in the NFL playing receiver, was responsible for overseeing a young group that included rookies Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin. On the personnel front, Whaley intends to make an offer in a bid to re-sign three-time Pro Bowl safety Jairus Byrd. And Whaley didnt rule out the possibility of using the franchise designation for a second consecutive year to retain the players rights even if it risks the possibility of having the player miss the entire off-season as he did this past year. Byrd is open to re-signing, and also braced for possibility of the Bills retaining his rights once again. "Im at peace with everything. I know what to expect," Byrd said. "Ive gone through it once. And itll be good. However it works, itll be good." Statistically, the Bills showed improvement on several fronts.
